What went wrong?
-
I used these two for stud today and only got one live foal. What happened?
-
Its most likely the Frame but can we see the mares?
-
Now that I look at my foals the one that is alive came from another Mare. So I didn't get any from these two.
-
The only thing I can think of is that with Santa Fe Sierra you got EXTREMELY unlucky with the kit mutations - i.e. the foal got Dad's W and one of Mom's kit genes, and got an extensive WF.
No clue on the other mare because she doesn't carry any lethal genes... -
It was the splash on the mares and the frame on the studs. You got unlucky with this round. The white factors overloaded and you had a lethal foal.
-
Can you get lethal white with just one kit gene? Cause one of the mares had no kit genes meaning that the lethal white came totally from Dad's W and the splash/frame.
-
Both splash and frame raise the white factor. I might be wrong but I believe that you can if you have a lethal foal with no Kit genes.
Also Santa Fe Sierra has Tobiano and Roan, two safe Kit genes.
