If you give away your only foundation with that color of Axiom you lose your breeding license for that gene and will also lose all your intact horses with that gene.

How do people get stuff for their secret santa person when the people aren't chosen yet and we don't know what they like? I really want to wait till I know so I can get stuff they want, but by the sixteenth I will be going into finals and then working on trying to get home, and I am worried about if I will be able to get things together to be worthy. Any tips on how to start preparing before we know?

Mine are simply just ideas that can be changed once my SS are decided.
Even if you don't have everything they like I'm sure they will still enjoy the gifts! It's the thought that counts :D

Buy some rank Special, most love them which makes it an easy gift then you can add more to the SS herd once you know what they want :)

OK! Family has left (we had a WONDERFUL weekend!!). Minor emergency has been averted, and I've checked all the most recent entries! Now, who wants to come do the dishes!?

Hello! I'd love to join Secret Santa this year (for my first time ever, by the way), but I have only 20-30k. Also, none of my horses is of high quality, so horses or straws are just impossible :p
What can I send to other people as gifts? Do you have any ideas?

My first year was last year and I did a lot of foundation horses especially once I knew who my SS was. I looked carefully over their ljst and did my best to get what they wanted. I didn't have much money wise either.
It isn't about how much money you spend but the thought put into each gift. You will do fine. Also look for good horses in auction. People are willing to help in anyway they can. Also something I am doing is saving up my hbs so that I have more money to play with for my SS.

Yeah, pinestables, you can ask other players to donate straws as gifts and they'll join in the spirit of things pretty easily. :)

Need opinions..
Im not sure what to go.. whether i should do under 100k or over 100k..

I've never done this before but from what if seen people do go over board when they do the over 100k..
I actually dont have any idea on what i would give either.. im very unprepared..
I have several stallions i can do straws from.. (kit M, DP, KP, w3 and splash 3)
And het snowflake, w10, kit M mares i can also do eggs on..
Plus show horses i can throw in.. rank specials etc..
Some young lined intacts..
What other ideas are there that don't require real money..
Ans what do people think i should do?

If you've never done this before, you might want to start this year with the under 100k level. It looks like you've got some great possibilities listed. You could ask a tattoo designer (like me :D ) to offer a tattoo for a bargain price, if your partner has at least a basic upgrade. I would be willing to do one for 500 hbs for a SS gift.

You’ll find that many players will start putting up ads for straws, eggs, embryos, and horses at super cheap prices (some even at cost or free).

In past years I have almost found it more difficult to spend +100k because of the generosity of all the players. I tend to include enough money to cover buying a new barn to hold all the horses I gift with space for foals from the straws.

I also save a copy of the Ss form on my iPad and under it write down all of the horses/eggs/straws I have collected or bought through the month with a note whether I’ve received it or it’s being delivered directly to the recipient. That way I can see their likes and dislikes without having to dig for the pm again. When it’s time to send the presents I can just copy and paste the list into my note. This has also cut down on the mystery straws in the freezer at the end of the year that I can’t remember if I got for my ss or if my Ss got them for me or if they were a random gift.

If it's a straw from someone else's horse, just buy it and send it in the normal way. When they check on the horse, they will only see its owner, not the person sending the straw.

If it's from one of your own horses, you might have to wait until the time comes when you can send gifts openly.

If you are going to give free straws from your stallions, does it matter if the stallion has been gmted? As in, does the price of the gmt factor into the cost of the straw? I have a boy that I'm gmting and if I do give straws from him it'll probably be over the 100k mark if the price of those gmts are included.

I have some time now that most of the evacuations have been lifted this morning, for most of the areas of the Lilac Fire. There are plenty of horse experienced volunteers at Del Mar to take care of the evacuated horses, livestock and even cats that were taken there.

@Obsidian you have a choice there. You can include whatever you think you’re going to,price the straws at regularly in your gift tally, or, since it’s Christmas, you can value them at pull price. If you aren’t guaranteeing intact offspring, I would value them at pull price myself.

OK! The eyeballs are clearing up! YAY! Now it's just a basic cold, and THAT I can deal with! Lets hear it for 875mg antibiotic tablets that are bigger than some pills I shoved down the throats of various horses through the years!

Yeah, we have another week to get our entries in. I just used the same dates from previous years when I ran SS. I don't know if Eccentric Equines changed it, but it's what I used for HJ2.

:D Yes, today is the day that the HaJ1 Secret Santa assignments would be out by, in the original post--"by December 10." However, the assigners got their work done early, and the messages had been sent out before Wednesday morning, game time. I'm the Elf there, this year, so I know.

How do Barnes work now that each individual account goes off of how many stalls they have. For example mine or marked up like 170%and I'm sure a lot of other people's are not that high. So does it go off of how much mine would cost or does it go off of how much the my secret Santa recipient would get cost

I thought our SS recipients go out on the 15th? I just got my SHH from the LaZer Calendar and it also has that the SS recipients go out today. Was that supposed to be for HJ1 instead of HJ2?

@Dena, Thanks. The Lilac fire is still burning, but isn't growing much. Most all evacuations have been lifted, but everyone are leaving their livestock, horses and even some cats at Del Mar until it gets more containment. It is at 20% this morning, but we are expecting the Santa Ana winds again today.

Part of the reason I set it up this way was to give myself the FULL day on the 16th (Saturday), to get the notices sent out, and make any corrections! And believe me I'm gonna need it! We have a TON of entries this year! It's MARVELOUS!

@hiddenvfarm--the surcharge for barns is based on the total number of stalls that the purchaser owns, so if you're sending the hajibucks so your SS partner can purchase a barn with IV's you'd need to know what that person's surcharge would be. If you're buying the barn for real-life money, I don't believe there's a surcharge based on number of stalls. At least the base cash price for my account is the same as always, and the number of IV's to purchase a barn has been raised by the posted percentage.

Secret Santa elves are tasked with making private inquiries about matters like this.

My ss only has a basic upgrade and are after a certain gene.I want to send then eggs but I think Basic are not meant to be able to use them. Would I send them a embryo instead?

Also who do I pm to find abit more info about what my SS wants? I have very limited horses of what they want at the moment. I want to send a nice variety but not send something they don't like :)

I have a question I do have some things my SS likes. How do one do straws from their line? Like value? I have a few 2g A papered colts that I would like to send as straws as gifts but not sure how to do a value even though I will send them as 1 hb to my SS?

@ParadisePark - you can ask ANYBODY to quiz your giftee for further information, but the OFFICIAL elves are Dark Star and ObsidianKitsune.

I would suggest that you use the eggs you have, and just breed a foal for them using a stallion that fits their likes. Or you can wait til the 'reveal' and say, hey, I have this egg for you, pick a stallion and I will handle the breeding side and give you the foal.
