I know the Secret Santa thing isn’t going to really get kicked off until next month, but I have so many horses that I thought I would get this out early to give people time to peruse my herd.

I don’t participate in Secret Santa myself but I still like giving stuff away. So I am giving away all of my breedings for the month of December. That’s right, you pick the DS stud and the DS mare and come December I will breed them and give you the resulting offspring for 1HB. The catch is that you can’t keep it yourself, you have to give away any foals you request to your Secret Santa recipient.

I will also pull straws and eggs for you to give away as gifts.

You don’t have to wait until you get your Secret Santa recipient assigned to start making requests. Only time I will need to know who your Secret Santa recipient is is if you want to give them an unaltered restricted gene.

There are a few rules.

1. Post in this forum, or send me a PM with the Stud x Mare request. Any stud may be paired with any mare. Foundation stud and 11th gen mare? No problem, whatever you guys choose.
2. Resulting foals will be given to you untested. It is up to you, or your recipient to test and alter, or not alter, any foals.
3. Limited genes. If you and your recipient do not own a restricted gene (Watercolor or Machiatto) you may still request a foal from one of those studs, but the foal will be altered. If you do not own a restricted gene, but your recipient does, I will hold on to the foal and give it directly to the recipient. Straws and eggs will only be given to people who own the gene.
4. Limit of 10 foals per gift giver, for now, I want to make sure I can respond to everyone in a timely manner. This number may increase if things aren’t too crazy. Additionally, straws and eggs will be limited to 10 per gift giver. 1 egg per mare. Even I can’t afford to give away mass flushes for free.

If you need something held and given directly to your recipient include their name and barn ID in a PM. If you are requesting a restricted gene please let me know if you and/or the recipient own the gene, otherwise it will be altered automatically.

I am probably going to set up a Google Xcel sheet tonight and share it with everyone. I will input the requests that have already been made. With xcel's auto fill feature it should be obvious if you are trying to pick a mare that has already been promised to someone else. I can also sort them by mare number that way and look for duplicates.

I have added a link to the google spreadsheet in the original post. You can make adjustments, additions or edit your choices there up until the 8th of December. I added most of the horses in there, but there were two duplicate mares. The spreadsheet should make it easier to find duplicates. You may want to go over the info in the spreadsheet to make sure it is correct.

For future additions, just use the name of the mare and stallion, no links please. It is easier for my to just move the mares around to smaller pastures based on their name.

If you do not feel comfortable with the excel spreadsheet, or you can’t get it to work, you may still post requests here.

So... A thing happened.

Last month I did a bit of culling of low performing horses in my show barns. It never even crossed my mind that you guys would have picked some of those horses to breed to. However, now that I am going through the lists I am finding several of the mares you guys picked I no longer own. Eeek!

I am currently evaluating the missing mares and choosing substitute mares that are roughly the same color and that I think will pair well with the stud you picked. I am listing the substitute mares on the spreadsheet. If you don’t like the mare I pick feel free to change the substituted mare.

I would suggest skimming through my pastures, rather than my barns. The barn mares are retired to show status because they no longer meet my standards. The pasture mares are much higher quality, and are the mares I am actively breeding. I suppose it would have helped if I had explained my system a bit more. I only pasture breed, I don’t do any hand breeding. I keep my best mares in the “0 Era Top Mare” pasture, the other 0 era barns hold the second string mares and 3 & 4 year old mares. 3 Era pasture is all Excetional producing 3 Era mares, and my 3 Era studs are WaterColor and Macchiatto. 5 Era pasture is all Perfect Foundation mares, and 2 Perfect foundation studs.

I have started breeding! I am about 1/3 of the way through the list. Horses will be put up in buddy chat and folks invited to join when I am not on my iPad, which doesn’t seem to like the buddy chat page.

If you want to check out the horses (and see if yours has been bred yet) they are all in my “Sorting Barn”. The foals are labeled with the recipient’s name.

Many of you have been added to the buddy chat. More will be added as their horses are bred. Straws will go out once the breedings are all done.

Also, since interest has tapered off, I will probably shut it down before the original close out date and breed the remaining horses myself. The foals from those breedings will also be offered as gifts. If you need to do some last minute shopping.
