Culling the dead weight advice
  • I have this stallion.. but he's leveled off, not in a good place I might add, and isn't doing well as a show horse and he hasn't particularly given me amazing foals either.. i mean they're not terrible, as He is a TNP, but should I cut my losses and get rid of him? I could use the space.. I'm one of those that becomes attached a little too easily tho.. Lol I end up hoarding..
I'd like to start selling the horses that aren't colors I really want, in order to free up my breeding program, but my show bonus is super low still so I worry about getting rid of too many..

    What do you guys think?

  • He only has 8 foals. 3 intact out of 8 is not a bad ratio to have. You need to give him more of a chance before you decide. Try putting him in pasture with some mares at full bonus.

  • What colors are you looking for?

  • I prefer to just do bays, blacks and some special horses here and there.
My niece does her chestnuts on my spare account, but that's really all I want to focus on right now. I like a few others just to spice things up, but this guy just doesn't seem to be giving me much for the space he seems to be taking up. :/

  • If he isn’t working for you, get rid of him. However, I would try to replace him with a show pony, not another breeder. I sounds like you need to focus on picking up your show bonus before you increase your breeding program again.

  • That's what I was thinking too. I like the foundations I have for breeding, but I am always hurting for money.. but I have too many stallions I'm not going to use I think..

  • I would think hard about losing rank specials, but I wouldn’t hesitate to dump regular create foundation stallions that don’t fit your goals.

Lots of people get started, figure out the basics of the game and then cull and refocus. If any of us can help you out with some show ponies or new breeding stock let us know.

  • I have a stall for him if he needs one. He is gorgeous.

  • He's a TNP so you don't have to worry at all about his breeding quality - you know it's good for a foundation. But if he's not the colour you want for breeding and you could replace him with a better show horse (either one with more points than him, or who'll soon have more points) then go for it. No need to keep around horses you won't use for breeding and who aren't pulling in the money.

He does have a reasonable number of points though so unless you can replace him with another shower who'll have points already or soon will have that many, it might be useful to keep him for his pre-existing points until you find a useful replacement.
