Tattoo question
-
So I havent created my first tattoo yet.
I dont know anything about tattoos except for what Ive seen on other peoples horses.
What does everyone recommend my first tattoo being for?
Should it just be for horses bred by me? And then as time goes on create ones to go with certain lines?
Also how the heck do I make one? lol
-
Usually peoples first tattoo is to put on the horses saying who they were bred by,
Usually tattoos are for all horses but they can specifically be for your horses. And you can if you feel like it.

Tattoos are useful for searching. Baya's right, most people make a "bred by" tattoo first, but you don't have to. A lot of people make them for specific lines, say a DP line or whatever. When you name the tattoo, you can then search it in the search horses function, so you should name it something like "MoonAcre DP" so it's unique. Then you can find all the horses in that line. Some people also use it to find all of their horses in a specific generation, too.
To make one, go to the tattoo registry. If you're upgraded, you automatically get one tattoo slot. You can purchase more on that page for 10k hbs each. There you can also edit a tattoo image, edit the name, or sell them.
So you can buy, sell or swap tattoos with other players. If you're artistically inclined and enjoy making them, many players will trade straws or eggs or horses, or just outright pay hbs. If you're not artistically inclined (or you hate pixel painting... it can be challenging), you can ask someone to make your tattoos for you. I enjoy doing them, so if you need an artist I'll be happy to help.
Go into the tattoo editor. It has pretty basic graphic functions - a brush, an eraser, and a dropper to pick up colors you already used. You can adjust the size of the brush. The color picker is really flexible (the little black square at the bottom). If you like transparency, you can also adjust that by clicking the bottom radio button and adjusting it. Unless you have a really colorful tattoo, that can make it hard to see. Also, if you're going to be putting it on horses, pick something with some contrast (like my black and white one) or something in a color that will be easy to see on different colored horses. -
Tattoo's can be fun and frustrating lol. Like Abbey I love making them though. My first one was a "stable" tattoo. Whiskey Oaks is my stable name so I did an Oak Tree. My Copper Flame line is a small fire. The simplest one I have is my DP tattoo. Just simple letters placed back to back. You can have all kinds of fun with them.

You can make fairly plain tattoos to place on your horse or you can make fancy picture ones to put in the corners of the horse's picture. If I'm putting a tattoo on a horse, I sometimes make it a two-tone one, one lighter color that will show up on dark color horses and one darker color that will show up on light horses. My stable tattoo for HaJ 1 is a green that does well on a lot of colors but tends to look blurry on sooty bays and a few others. When we were finally allowed to edit tattoos that had been placed on horses, I went back to it and made a light gray outline around the tattoo, which helped clear up that problem.
I'm another one who enjoys creating tattoos, so I'd be glad to help you out if you'd like.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Thank you so much everyone! I think first I'm going to play with creating my own and if I end up super irritated which is very possible I will ask for help! My first one will be my farm or bred by tattoo. I have no idea what its going to be though lol.

Well, I didn't even know there was an editor, so here's my Silver and Gold tattoo for anything silver or champagne or remotely golden. :P
This was interesting because I had to get it to work on both light and dark coats. :P -
I like that one RoseFlute!
-
Thanks! :)
-
That looks great Rose!
-
Great job, RoseFlute!
@MoonAcre: Perhaps something with a moon in it, or the initials MA or MAS, perhaps in a slightly ornate font (very ornate can be difficult to achieve). In HaJ 1, I use the letter S under a symbolic representation of water.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Rose that is cool. I love the 3D effect you get on the light horse.

These tattoos are all amazing! Wish I had that sort of artistic ability! Abbey Road is working up a few tattoos for me in her spare time.
-
I like that sandycreek! And yes I was thinking a moon and maybe next to it an A with some sort of pretty font if I can figure out how to do that with pixels lol i was messing around doodling things in it last night and it was harder than I expected lol i can't figure out how, if there's even a way, to get it to flow and like make half circles and such lol I give everyone props for some of those awesome and pretty detailed tattoos!
-
If you google Plotz circles there is a great little tool to help build circles using pixels. Also google building in Minecraft. Minecraft is a pixel based game. See what people have built in there might help give you some ideas.Thanked by 1Abbey Road

Thanks, y'all! :)
Yup, minecraft is how I figured out how to do circles. I used to do a lot of round towers. :P you can't have a proper castle without round towers. :D -
I've been thinking of a tattoo for my Silver Black line. From day one they make me think of pirates. This is what I came up with. X Marks The Spot.

Ooh, I love the swords! I had a similar idea for my barn brand on HJ1 (my barn name is Chivalree).
-
Oh nice. Love the shield. I'm working on one right now that has me raking my brain but I think it turned out pretty good. Waiting to see what the new owner thinks of it :)
-
I love the swords and the swords with the shield! Okay after a night and day of off and on trying to make my own..... I think I'm gonna swallow my stubbornness and ask for help lol I need more time to practice and learn and for right now I really want a nicer one than I can make for my stable tattoo. So abbey since you were the first to offer your artistic skillz would you like to do the honors? lol I'm still thinking a moon and an A. Or a moon and a star. Or something along those lines but none of that is set in stone. If you come up with something amazing that doesnt have to do with a moon? Show me! I don't know how to go about offering for a tattoo? How much is a good price to pay? Or I could give a couple straws I have a homo DP boy (I know you have quite a few of those though) and Ive got a GMTd bay homozygous Sabino2 who is also homozygous black.
-
If you'll pay the 10k for the tattoo slot and a 3 straws to your DP stud, I'd do that. I'll see what I can come up with.
-
Works for me!
