What drew you to Hunt and Jump in the first place?
  • I'm just curious what drew everyone to this game. For me, my husband and I are already gamers. We play just about everything. With 4 kids it's hard to find a sitter so it's our together time just me and him and whatever game we choose to play, it's our date night out after the kids have gone to bed. I've played a few online horse genetic games because genetics is an interest of mine. My major is in Biology and being a stay at home, homeschooling parent I need a stimulating outlet just for myself otherwise I would go crazy lol. The other games I felt like I was grinding caring for horses with very little reward in return and the group playing wasn't very inviting unless you had something to offer and the competition was more then a little rough. I've stayed here because I find the group of people friendly, willing to help and informative. Any in game grinding is so worth it because you see your results every month come breeding time. No useless grinding of feeding, watering, and brushing everyone that doesn't actually move you forward in your goal. The best part, you get to choose what your foals will actually look like. So many games say they are a genetic breeding game but this is the only one I have found so far that lives up to that. There is very little random computer generating colors. The bulk is the genes your horses have that you choose to breed together. SO in conclusion I came for the genetics, I stayed because of the wonderful people who play it as well :) By the way Thank you Ammit and all your helpers for creating a great game. You guys are doing an awesome job.
  • I forget what in particular got me started on this game, but I'm staying for the genetics that make sense and work, and this community, obvs. :)
    Basically, ditto. :P
  • Im actually a junior in high school, i was on a different horse website and saw the advert for this game. And since i was studying equine science it was conveinent

  • Someone recommended the game to a horsey friend on FB. I saw the recommendation and decided to check it out, expecting a game much as FJ described--lots of time consuming grinding for not much reward. I was immediately bowled over by the graphics and fumbled my way through the first few weeks.

I think, particularly as someone involved in animal health and seeing firsthand the terrible consequences of breeding just for color or size or whatever in real life, I especially enjoy that the game encourages you to breed beautiful horses that are also high performers--ideally both in the show ring and the breeding shed. That combined with the excellent genetics aspect of the game and the amazing community kept me coming back until I was thoroughly addicted!
  • Just happened to pop up on another websits. Figured I would try and see if anything decwnt. Usually u can't do anything unless u pay. Well it hooked me. Then I saw that the joining etc was 75%off. And a passion started:-)
  • I love horses, but one summer I got sick and could not spend as much time with my hayburners. I started playing an online horse game but it was tedious, you had to play games and the genetics were not real. After I got better, I still continued to play, especially when it was to dark or wet to go outside. Eventually I found HJ1, but only played for a short time before coming to HJ2. This version moves at a faster pace, and the genetics pulled me and I quit HJ1 and the other game. Like you fj, I homeschool my grunions, and I am on and during the day when I need a break, and at night when everyone (two and four legged) are settled in.
  • I'm really interested in genetics so the realism of the game in that department has kept me hooked. Love it!

I also like that you can set your own goals and play however you want to reach them.

  • I came to Hunt and Jump much like Cheers did. Facebook suggested the game to me and I happen to be very interested in horses genetics, so I thought I would give it a try and I have been here ever since. Especially since the game has such a realistic viewpoint, as Cheers mentioned, and we are encouraged to breed beautiful and practical horses. :)
  • I really wanted to learn genetics and was looking for a way to do it that didn't involve dry texts. I certainly found it. I think I found the game via google search, but it might have been a facebook ad.

My husband and I are also avid gamers. He totally does not get this game, there's not enough of an "object" for him.

I also really appreciate not having to babysit your horses with brushing and feeding and all that.
  • Abbey, my husband doesn't play this game but he totally gets why I do and asks me how my horsey's are doing. Now If I could find a genetic game like this for my Nintendo 3DS I would be set lol
  • I saw an ad for Haj1 on Facebook early in 2010 and was caught by the reference to horse genetics. I scoped it out, but the description of game-play was a bit daunting for some reason, so I pointed it out to my daughter, who was a biology major in college and had always loved and done well in genetics. She joined (and also played the Western Horse Game for a while). Meanwhile I sat and watched over her shoulder while she played for 8 months :D until I understood the showing system at the time (which depended on showing your horses when they were most likely to place in the top of the class). Late in 2010, I finally broke down and got my own account, and quickly moved from being an addicted spectator to being an equally addicted player. I kept paper showing records of every horse until I had so many I gave up and got a Level 5 (now the Premium Upgrade) because I couldn't keep up with the work anymore. My daughter was one of the start-up players of HaJ 2 (account number 88) and I kept telling myself that one game was enough for me. Nope, it didn't work. I"ve been playing both games since October of 2013.

I too love all the realistic uncertainties built into the game and even more the realistic genetics, from which I've learned a tremendous amount from how they work in the game, and I absolutely love the community, which in both games is one of the best I've come across on the Internet.

Thank you, Ammit, for keeping up this marvelous game and always finding ways to make it better.

  • I had someone tell me about it and for the last couple years I've been researching and learning a ton about equine color genetics and this game seemed like the perfect way to help me learn even more in a fun way.

Of course now it's much more than learning! I absolutely love it now that I understand so much. I love the community and my handful of favorite ladies who have helped me way more than I could have ever expected. I'm even a bit attached to my pixel ponies! Especially the favorites lol. I cannot wait for my second generations to be old enough to breed cause that's when the fun really starts! When you have your home bred babies producing their own babies! The kindness of people in this game and how people help each other is such a lovely thing. How we all can communicate civilly and we're like a little pixel pony breeder family. As a very new player I felt like an outcast but within a week I was treated by a few people like I wasn't just some dumb new player that didn't know what I was doing. Which was awesome. I hope to be apart of this community for a very long time!
  • I actually found HJ1 shortly after moving from Oregon to California on Facebook. I was into breeding APHA horses with a friend of mine in Oregon. So the genetics of the game caught my eye right away. Since I moved, I wasn't able to help with her breeding business, show or barrel race anymore in Cali. I decided to join HJ1. I hadn't shown English, Hunter or Jumper for many, many years, and didn't get the showing system in HJ1. The showing was too challenging....lol. Then Ammit had Shoco for a while, it was Western, and all the events associated with Western. I joined that instead, and played that for a few years. But problems with that game made it too easy to make money, and it wasn't a challenge for me anymore....lol. I saw where someone on Shoco had joined the new HJ2. It was still pretty new when I joined, I am ID#362. Anyway, I joined, and with the help of some of the older members I got into it right away, and here I am.
  • Back in the day I was an avid horseland player, I had just been talking about it with a barn mate and hj2 popped up in an advertisement on my fb (my phone must be tapped. Haha jk). I've always been drawn to horse breeding, trading and training and am an avid hunter jumper. I also currently work at a ranch. It's so funny because once I start getting to know genetics through this game i start having the same mentality in real life. I see horses for their confirmation, followed by color followed by what their parents might look like and that leads to thinking about which horses I have in my barn that I could breed to replicate the horse I see.
  • Paintstables, what part of Cali are you in?
  • hunterhack, I am in way Southern Cali now.
