Guess The Genes
-
I bred this filly this week, and I want to see if anyone can guess what color she really is. What do you think? :D
-
Flaxen liver chestnut? :)
-
Silver black. I suppose she could be hiding a pattern with no white factor.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES
Barn ID - 2358 -
Silver black for sure. Love the chocolate tint! I got that with some of my guys this time too!
-
Silver Black is correct! There isn't a hidden pattern, I just thought it would be harder considering the mane and tail don't seem to be different from the body hair. :P
I don't have any more. :P If anyone else wants to post, go ahead. -
Ok, here is one. What patterns does this big guy have? I haven't color tested to find out for sure yet...but I know what he might be carrying! -
My guess is white 2 frame.
-
Something frame for sure, but it might be white 1, or maybe a sabino, since most of it is on the belly, I think.
-

Abbey is right! I also thought perhaps Sabino as his mom carries it, but failed to pass that part on. I got some great looking foals out of this pasture and still haven't gone through the fillies yet! -
My turn. -
Silver dun amber champagne splash. With cream or pearl, maybe? I just saw a very similar one on the login page. :P
-
I love her knee splash!
-
Not splash :) The rest is right... guess again.
-
Silver dun amber champagne sabino frame.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Nope. She's tricksy. :)
-
Silver dun amber champagne. I don't know the rest. Maybe with tobiano and frame? I had a horse that was tobiano and didn't look like tobiano. And she might have satin, her coat seems shining :Punderstand the significance of signatures
-
She is heterozygous satin, but I think the shiny is the champagne.
She does have a Kit gene, that's your clue. -
Really I don't know all these white or sabino genes. As I said, maybe "hidden" tobiano, but she looks like sabino. I don't know how can white look, so I can't say that she might have white.
I guess sabino and I don't know what else.understand the significance of signatures -
I'm guessing white 3 since I have a girl with very few oddly shaped white splashes with that. I do love that it's only showing in the ragged edge of her stockings and that one splotch on her knee...and she's awful pretty overall!
-
Yep, White 3 it is.
-
Funny... I can tell W3&4 apart but not 1&2. Must just depend on what you spend time breeding.

-
Here, I'll put up the pic so we don't have the temptation of clicking the pedigree tab. :P
...and looking at the breeder's clubs gave it away, too. What I guessed beforehand is below.
I'd say het DP, het sooty, and rabicano chestnut, maybe hiding a kind of bay and/or silver. -
maybe splash with those lips?
-
Hmmm.... I'd say no DP, SstySsty Chestnut Rabicano. There's something else going on, based on the white nose dots. I'll go with Sabino 1.
-
This one stymied me, let's see if I'm the only one.
-
Well, first guess is silver brown satin, second guess is flaxen liver satin, both with sooty+.
-
I love this thread. I've been quietly trolling. and watch. training my eyes.
-
Right? I like pretending I know what I'm talking about. :P There was a similar thread last month, if you want to have a few more examples.

Could potentially be silver black satin with that chocolate tint like in the very first on this thread too. Maybe some sort of pattern with that bumpy off fore sock? When they're minimally patterned I really struggle...
-
Yep, silver black. Blew my mind. I don't think he has a Kit gene or Splash but he's a gelding so I'm not testing him.
-
I don't know if this chocolatey color on the silver blacks is new, but I love it! Especially when they get the silvery grey or creamy white mane and tail. But Rose's at the top got almost a cocoa powder colored mane and tail which is pretty cool too....the color variation is amazing!
-
Yeah, it's cool!
Okay, I've got three more. These first two are from Herd Helpers. -
I'm guessing the first one is tricky because she just looks black. Smokey black?
The second one I'd say homozygous Appaloosa. -
Whoops!
Completely correct! The first is smokey black, and the second is a True Breeding Brown Appy.
This next one is fun. :) -
Silver Black/grullo with Sty+ And possible but hidden RabicanoLife is Special live it to your fullest

Life is Special live it to your fullest
-
Nope, something else, keep going. :P
-
Wow, I'd have sworn silver black. Flaxen liver?
-
Still not quite. :P
Well, okay, yes, silver. -
Silver sooty+ brown?
-
Maybe with cream? Silver brown buckskin with Sooty+?
-
Okay, Bays was mostly right, she just wasn't decisive. :P She's silver Grullo with sooty+, but she's also hiding Sabino 2. :D
http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=337680 -
Sabino 2 is notorious at hiding on foals, I have a hard time seeing it at all, quite often. I'd be interested to know if she shows a few dots at her fetlocks or something when she's an adult.
That's a super charcoal-y grullo, love it! -
Thanks! She's nice and tall, too. :P
I think Baya's entry was a bay tobiano het. Nexus. -
Try this filly.
-
Wild bay dun pearl?
