Best pasture foal spayed by free testing
-
So, I just bred one of my pastures, got 94 foals. Of those 94 foals, 6 were spayed or gelded by free testing. One was the foal identified as the best in my pasture by the automatic email. So....I still have 88 intact foals that DID pass the free tests....do I yum the lot? Do I alter the whole bunch? Or do I assume there was some sort of fluke and the foal really wasn't the best of the bunch and move on? Seriously freaking out as this was my DP fojndation pasture and losing the whole lot of foals will severely affect my breeding program.

In case you're interested, this is the foal in question. I'm not sure whether SMA or SAT got her. -
Hmm. I don't think I've ever seen that happen. I have had "best in pasture" foals neutered by the Consistency test, though.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I wouldn't yum them based only on the email. Your stallion is a perfect foundation, so the disparity in quality is probably responsible, given that her PT score isn't all that remarkable. Are you getting superior sons out of them?
-
I get probably between 50 and 75% of my gen 2 colts papering B in any given pasture and I have gotten a colt that papers AGA my benchmark in each color block so far this season. I stopped going thru this pasture when I noticed so I haven't gotten to the paper stage on the colts yet... I have much better mare PTs in this pasture and but no papered mares. on a quick skim, there are 9 Rank Special and 3 perfect foundation mares plus 3/4 have the full pasture boost.

That is bizarre. Maybe a bug on the email's part?
-
Maybe the best of the bunch foal was the best overall showing and breeding? If she was a super awesome shower and just a good breeder the SAT test would spay her I would think.
I am not super clear whether the "best of the bunch" identifies the best breeder or the best shower in your foals.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

It certainly doesn't ID the best PT score, as I had many over 10 in that pasture.
All I know is I got this stallion

He papers B and compares AGA my benchmark, who is a best pasture foal from 2 years ago and I have yet to run into a B papered Gen 2 that compares higher than him... So I'm keeping this colt and the intact fillies that meet my standards, selling the excess colts just like I am all my others and chalking it up to weirdness.
