BA vs SBA vs papering
-
Sorry if this is old hat or something I should know but I tried answering myself going through the FAQ and got more confused lol!
On a free account there is breeding advice, performance inspection, and genetic testing buttons on the horse page. Breeding advice is free and alters the horse if not up to quality right? And then upgraded accounts have papering. That costs 1000hb right? Ok..on the FAQ it says breeding advice costs 1000hb but that strict breeding advice is free, and breeding inspection (papering) is a separate test...so what is breeding advice vs strict breeding advice and do only certain levels have access to some tests or different pricing? Thanks for any clarification.Fine appaloosa riding horses, Axiom blue and green, ice 1, ice 2, and ice 8 -
Premium Accounts have Strict Breeding Advice. It's a bit more hardcore than regular Breeding Advice. Not sure how much it costs since I don't have access to it.
The SBA being free and BA being 1000 hbs is a typo. Ammit has a lot on her plate so she'll get to that eventually.
Papering costs 1000 hbs and is accessible by basic upgrades and up. It's incredibly helpful and worth a basic upgrade alone.Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

Breeding Advice is free and available to anyone.
Strict Breeding Advice is free but only accessible with an upgrade. If I make a foal with genes I REALLY want, but I'm on the fence about what their quality might be, I might only run that horse through regular Breeding Advice. If they pass BA, they're good breeders. If they pass SBA, they're REALLY good breeders.
SBA was created for crazy-massive stables *looks away innocently* who have horse hoarding issues and have too many intact horses to choose from. It is not required or necessary to use SBA to improve the quality of your herd over time, but it helps you pick out the very best of the best. It is generally recommended by most players to use BA as it's free, especially if you want to sell to other players, but you can also turn it off. You never HAVE to use BA or SBA. Do what works for you. However, when selling an intact horse, you'll be hard pressed to find buyers if you didn't run free BA.
Papering is 1000 and only available to upgrades. If you're tight on funds, wait on papering.
Performance Testing is 500 and available to anyone. A horse with a higher PT score will be trainable longer before "leveling off" and thus is more likely to make higher earnings later in life.
I only run PT on my show horses when I have spare funds, and I don't worry about it as much with my breeding horses. Your horse shows at the same quality whether or not you revealed their PT. It doesn't change unless you use a GMT to improve it.
(Same concept with papering: it won't change unless you GMT, so it's the same whether you reveal it or not, you just can't see it until you pay for it. You USED to be able to "pad" and improve a mare's papering level with good foals, but that is no longer the case.)
I cannot stress this final point enough: PT score and Breeding Ability ARE NOT RELATED. A horse might be awesome at showing but a mediocre breeder, or vice versa. A few horses are great (or terrible) at both skills.
Does this answer all your questions? I had a lot of antihistamines tonight for my bad allergies, so my brain is fuzzy.

I believe BA is at least slightly worse than or better than both parents. SBA is equal to or better than both parents.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

This is only true for foundations.

Thank you all for the information! That all makes sense.
So Ammit, in my higher generations, I want to see PT scores that are decent on my intact babies?Fine appaloosa riding horses, Axiom blue and green, ice 1, ice 2, and ice 8 -
PT score and quality are related in as much that a better quality breeding horse will have foals with higher PT's. So although the actual PT on a horse can't tell you what the breeding quality is, it is still an indication of a better (or worse) quality breeding line.
So yes you definitely would want to see higher PT's in higher generations, if PT isn't increasing, then quality isn't
