I have a dilemma
-
I absolutely love this colt..
G4 Kings Peace SB1 OLW KM
But ive had a brother whos tested superior.. the brother doesnt have as many fancy geness but im breeding for quality.. Kings Peace is only as good as a 3rd gen A paper.
2nd colt is definently homo DP (I gmted him consistent and also didnt realise his mum was dp that he missed)
G4 pt queenie
Blue im definently keeping the 2nd colt for stud.. just in a dilemma about the first :/ hes so pretty but i dont really need 2 breeding brothers do i? especially when ive barely got any 4 gensBreeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.

Keep him as a pretty show pony. :)
-
Put him in the show barn but don't geld him - pretend he's a show pony and only breed from him when you crumble - which my guess will be in maybe 2 months from now :) It would be a crying shame if you gelded him. He's lovely! Do you really have to be so strict? ;)
-
Also you get nearly as many points from intact as gelded ;)
-
Hes stunning isnt he..
I was planning on using him for my breeding until i got the superior brother.. i guess i can leave him in the barn intact.. if it wasn't his brother that was superior id be ok but just think seen as they have the same bloodline theres not much point when my g4 herd is tiny..
If hes intact i know i will crumble and use him. Lol.Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.

:D Maybe you can use him one month and his brother another and see which foals are better? Also keep their parents breeding together - maybe next year you'll have a stallion with the quality of the second with genes of the first :)Thanked by 1Sunlit

They are both stunners :)

Hard choice. I’d just keep them both and buy more mares to go around if it were me. Or try to GMT the younger brother to get some of the missed extra genes onto him.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

Snip. You say you want to breed for quality. Don’t leave him sitting around where you can crumble and use him. He’s not as good as his younger brother. As others have said, keep repeating this cross!
Alternatively, if you just can’t stand to snip him, make him a mare. That way you keep him producing and helping your herd but he’s not having as big an impact on the quality of your lines as he would as a stud.Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms -
Do you have the money to boost? Or pull a few straws so it's more expensive and you might be less inclined to breed to him and forget the straws are there. Or maybe sell him?Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

Im out of straws for their sire but I've messaged the owner so maybe I'll manage to get more.. i pull eggs from the mare so im getting a fair few foals from her..
Maybe turning him to a mare isn't a bad idea.. i just loved him since he was born so was quite sad he didnt comp test as i wanted..

But maybe pull staws from him? Then geld him. But that would be sad. I also like the turn him into a mare idea.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

Why don't you put them both in the pasture? But then compare any foals and be just as strict on him. Sometimes with pasture bonus they'll toss some from the top of his range.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

Crystal, I feel your pain. But, please remember that if you breed him, you will be tempted to take most of his foals that pass testing. Only the very best of his foals will be as good as his brother’s foals, and his brother’s best foals will be much better. If he was superior to sire but inferior to your benchmark that would be one thing, but he’s literally not an improvement on his sire. Don’t throw away half of your gen 4 mares on a Gen 3 stallion. He will be a Blue papered mare, which is a clear increase in quality from his mom. It always takes longer to impgrabdfoalsrove your mare quality than your stallion quality anyway, so if lots of your gen 4 mares are Blue from Red mothers he’ll be of similar quality. He will have the chance to pass on his gorgeous genes but the better stallion will be your herd sire.
I’ve kept inferior sires before, waiting for that “good one” to come along that I’ll replace the pretty one with. It totally screwed up my original Nexus line. If you really want to breed for quality first, you’ll kick your self in a few months if you keep this boy as a stallion and you’re starting to compare his offspring’s offspring with your other boy’s grandfoals. -
You have convinced me.. ill either close my eyes and snip or ill turn him into a mare..
I generally don't even let red 3rd gens into my breeding stock unless they are something special.. i think i knew that i should have snipped once i got his brother but was just wishful thinking i was being too strict. Lol.
