  • Drat! Didn't see that! I still want to know about that name, though!

  • Oh, sorry. I have a Bonfire from last time they were created (she is 8 years) if you are interested. I really don't use her so I could sell her for 30k

  • I am studying for an ornithology test tomorrow, and one of the things we need to know is the differences between dinosaurs and birds so we can tell if halfway organisms are more bird or more reptile. They all refer to bones, so bonefire reminded me of hat. One of the things is birds have a large (keeled) sternums for attaching lots of flight muscles, and reptiles have small, flat sternums because they don't have flight muscles.
  • No problem. I'm gonna do a bunch of GMT work, so need the youngsters, but thank you!

And thank YOU Paradise! I got a couple off the sales boards!

  • Yay! glad you got what you needed.
  • LOL! Good reasoning, Wildland... Now you'll remember the sternum 'rule' for the rest of your life! It will haunt you when you're 73 years old and can't figure out WHY you remember it!

  • Haha. Good point. I think I will start naming a bunch of show ponies things for the test, and hopefully they will haunt me too. I'm fine about being haunted by things that give me good grades... most of the time. haha

  • Hahahaha, when I studied russian at uni, I used to name all my horses after the the words I needed to know. Now I am learning portuguese, so now they get portuguese names.

And thank you for teaching me something new today :D

  • Wildland if you don’t use your 8 year old she would have a loving home in my barn.
  • SUre. Will have to talk about it later because I'm late for winter sword making, but if you want her Cheers. I still think it's cool that one of the RS you suggested came to be.
  • Awesome. When you get back please also explain Winter sword making and why it’s different from summer sword making!
  • Ok, sorry for taking so long. Once I got back from the sword making and meetings it was time to go to bed. I like joining groups that make foam weapons and do sword fights in parks, gives me an avenue to try to look up medieval sword fighting techniques and then try to practice them without things quite as dangerous as metal weapons. The first sword I made it the stereotypical foam sword, PVC pipe with a noodle type foam cut in certain ways and wrapped in duct tape till it looks sort of like a sword. This was a sword I made tailored to what the sword fighting group back home wanted, though these swords can't withstand rain or cold temperatures because in rain the duck tape sloughs off, and in cold it gets really hard, constricts on the foam making it hard, so we don't want to hit people with it any more, and the tape and PVC pipe can crack if people still hit hard with them. Usually the group back home just doesn't fight for a couple months in the winter and we are good.
At college in Idaho there is another sword fighting group, though if they were going to wait out the weather there wouldn't be a lot of sword fights between October and May, and for reasons above they are trying hard to dissuade duct tape/PVC pipe sword in the winter months at all for safety of people and swords, so they did a crafting day where we can make winter suitable weapons. They used a fiber glass rod and lots of strips of EVA and camp mat foam glued on with contact cement to form the blade. I used a little bit of duct tape for my own comfort, but instead of wrapping it in duct tape it will be covered in a cloth leave, that way the sword won't fall apart if I use it below freezing like what has happened to me before. Plus this one has cross guards. :)

  • Came to buy a horse, stayed for education :))

The sword stuff sounds absolutely amazing and now I want to find people around where I am so I can do it too!

  • Very cool! It never occurred to me that foam swords would become dangerous in cold weather.

Still interested in your older Bone Fire. Pm me if you’re keen.
  • @WildlandAcre I have many friends who RP with foam swords in the UK in summer, so not such an issue! I learnt to fight with blunted metal ones but the foam ones are a lot easier to wield. Now I've got my horses though I just want to learn to joust! My clydesdaleXwarmblood (who is not phased by anything) would make a great medieval knight's horse!
  • Haha, thanks that I am somewhat educational. Haha. Yep, there is a lot of things we do to try to keep things safer possible. Do they use more of a HEMA (historical European Martial Arts) style in the UK? Clydsalexwarmblood? That would be such a cool Jouster! How is he with weights? I saw a jousting horse who decided he didn't want to be carrying about a bunch of heavy armor any more so kept running away whenever people tried to mount him in armor. haha. Horses are smart.
