Trying to figure out a routine?
-
I create a bunch of horses after almost every auction (I haven't had much time to do so lately) and breed and sell them and I don't have a show herd or all that but I'm thinking once things settle down I could maybe start a show herd? I'm still saving up for the basic upgrade. I buy barns but turns out not enough ( I have two 30 and two 15) and i was pretty much asking what should I do?EasternShowBarn

Invest in a show barn! And then haunt the auctions for horses with points and are at an acceptable age. Pay attention also to training level!
I have now started a pretty show pony line! So I am intentionally breeding for high pt. I have a few uneven very pretty high pt stallions that I am using. I then use high pt uneven mares. So far the foals are testing nicely! I have soooo many 2G even mares. So I dont need that many more. Hopefully by Christmas these foals will start rewarding my efforts lol. But they must be super pretty lmaoDivineDreams ~ 30908

I do what you do, create horses, breed them int he pasture, and auction everything. Last season I finally realized this doesn't make as much money as I would like and so I invested in a 120 show barn. I ended up having to get rid of some horses to convert a few 15 and 30 stall barns to IVs, as well as do my thing with the auction but I managed. Now I'm in the process of filling said barn. I lucked out and was able to get a Great Show Horse HH plus won enough lotteries to be able to create all 30+ of them, I also bred them to sell foals/keep some for show before I spayed them. Some of the foals and mares started ending up in my show barn as well from my auction program. Just tonight I broke 1k in show bonus. I do have 200+ horses total that contribute, not just my show ponies.
Of course none of this could've happened as quickly as it did if I didn't upgrade to premium as fast as I did. But I may be able to help you reach your goals.
375,000 is what you need to get you your upgrade. 500,000 is what you need to then get the 120 stall barn.
375000HB is 250 pasture foals sold at auction with only Breeding Advice(that's free right?) and Perfomance Inspection done. That is 5 studs worth. 637500HB worth of creates. I do not know how much money you have right this minute but I suggest you work with what you currently have. Throw a stud in your pasture and as many mares are you can make. Before throwing the mares in pasture DO NOT PAPER THEM AT ALL. You aren't keeping them, they are purely auction fodder. Also make sure to enter them in auction before putting them into the pasture, that way they will sell even if you have no room to pull them out. Try not to breed more foals than you can stuff into your barns before next auction, otherwise you will be running on a space deficit. I see you currently have 48 spaces in your barn. That is 24(60000HB) mares and 24(24000) foals, 36000 per auction cycle and you will need 12 auction cycles to make enough upgrade plus have enough left over to continue your cycle. 19 cycles will then get you your show barn.
Now why do I suggest PTing your foals? You are likely to get 10+ PT on your foals which you can use to start filling your show barn. Sure you can safely fill up 24 spots before it messes with your cycles as long as you are entering the mares into auction before adding them to your pasture.
Hopefully with all this creating you can win one of the bigger creation lotteries. That would go a long way towards getting you started.
Edited to add: Check the forum often. There's almost always some contest or other going on. They are not always advertised as such either. You may be able to win a nice horse to pad your bonus, an RS to auction or use as a stud or money, money is always good. -
I'd also like to add, for every foal kept you need to auction 2 to break even.

@SeldomSeen that helps a lot! I didn't know there were little contests going on? I do have a few rs and brindled I could sell because I don't use them for breeding often.EasternShowBarn

@EasternShowBarn If you know they have no place in your eventual breeding program(separate from the auction program) definitely put them on the forum for auction. You may even make enough from them alone to upgrade your account. They will also free up space for the auction program.

And about the contests. They aren't always blatantly contests. Sometimes they are just random questions and if you answer correctly, fast, or if they like your answer, surprise! You won a new show pony. Everyone is so generous in this game.

I've used pretty much the same method as SeldomSeen. Except I don't blow the 500 on Performance Testing the foals. Exceptions being if I really like the look of an auction fodder that passed Breeding Advice (BA) or if I'm trying to calculate an Average Foal Performance Test (AFPT) for a stallion/mare I've kept. Another good piece of advice I saw on the forum that helped bring my showing bonus up was: after each auction I search for sale horses under 18 years, with 50+ points, for 3000 or less. I bought one after each auction for a while. I was able to get a basic upgrade with game money IVs fairly quickly (six weeks +/-). Now that I'm starting to breed my second generation I'm getting foals with higher PTs and I'm keeping them rather than searching for sales. Patience wins the day in this game. My showing bonus is nothing to write home about yet but I see it growing weekly. Good enough!
