Cull Percentages - Research Experiment - Please Post
  • What's the cull percentages for your stallions this year? Let's say your stallion was bred all 50 times, but only has 20 live yearlings then his percentage would be 60% cull percentage.

Please also include the percentage of intact ones, and altered ones, over the live ones.

Please also include what may of messed the numbers up a bit. Like AI breeding. Or using the stallion to breed for auction fodder. etc.

I will post my examples in the comments.

Please note that this is a reject rate, not alteration rate. Certain PT for show horses, or paper level for intacts.

Thank you! Just super curious what everyone else was getting.

    93% cull rating

50% alteration (keep more 3G as show horses)

Numbers may be messed up as he was up for public cover, and their cull procedures may be different then mine. Also, I used him to breed auction fodder.

50 pasture bred foals (note: not all mares had full pasture bonus)

    11 intact (3 fillies, 8 colts)

38 spays/gelds (18 kept as show pons, 20 sold back to the game due to barn space restrictions)

1 lethal foal (which I was absolutely devasted about)

78% cull percentage, may be higher once I sort through the colts

  • yeah @jordanK that's impressive!
  • This thread is being as interesting as I hoped it would be! It's always interesting to hear people's cull procedures, and their cull rates over different stallion, and different generations. I hope I have time today to go through all of my stallions and write down their percentages. And for each gen. Like some 2G foals go straight to auction without even sorting. But I test all 3G foals for everything. 10.5 PT to stay as a show horse. I only had like 4 4G foals anyway.

    21 covered
    2 alive
    0 intact
    90% cull rating

(think I put some foundation mares in there though)

One foal had 10.8 PT, the other 10.9

I wonder if the rates show strictness on quality by the player, or the quality of the stallion.

Also wonder if it would be good to have a mare equivalent of this thread. Seeing how many foals she has alive, but assuming she had a foal every season. Problem with that is my mares haven't had too many seasons yet.

50 Pasture bred foals, full pasture bonus, I think.

18 Alive, auctioned all who did not pass SBA and then I further culled my colts down to 2. I may have culled some buckskin fillies. Did not keep statistics though I may have to start.

  • @SeldomSeen

Thanks for posting! Glad im not the only one that keeps some studs for auction fodder

Maybe you should name that one Auction Fodder. LOL.
Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
  • And now he is named, Auction Thrower. Next season I think I'll break out the spreadsheets and keep track of it all. This is actually pretty interesting.
  • I like those colts! See why you kept them. If the C papered one was B I'd grab him, perfect for my black appy rabicano line. If the other one was rabicano, or had parents with rabicano I'd offer to buy him. Maybe next season.
Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
  • I just papered them too. But I'm sure someone may be looking for that C. He's covering the same mares this coming season, all black so if any black appy rabis come up I'll let you know.
  • Awesome, thank you!

  • I got 18 out of 50 intact from this fellow, not bad since most dams were yellows. Only 1 I gelded for inconsistency. Also had a couple of blues from him. 64% cull

  • I also managed ok with this chap 7 out of 29 intact, not bad considering he didn't have any girls in pasture and they were all yellow HHs. So 67% cull

All horses went through SBA. Colts cut to 1 via Comparison test. Fillies cut for inconsistency. Show ponies with PT below 10.0 culled. Mares did not have full pasture bonus, so that would have affected my numbers.
  • Ooo, this sounds fun. Now to start things, I keep show ponies based off a minimum pt score, so higher the quality the more likely all the foals will be kept, but not necessarily intact. ;P

I thought this sounded interesting to look at my top three 2g studs, since they are all different quality levels. Kinda show how that affects things. lol

  • @WildlandAcres wow, it is very interesting how the stallion quality affected it! Were the mares more or less the same quality?

I can't wait to calculate the cull percentage at the end of today, thanks everyone!
Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
  • Mares should be about the same range of quality, I sorted them by wether or not they had dun mostly, and there were several groups of sisters split amongst the stallions. Also, the B boy was disadvantaged because at 3g I cull any foals that don't reach blue/ A, so I cull many of his foals after breeding advice, the second boy most of the foals that pass breeding advice pass my inspection and all the intact foals I have gotten out of the third stallion that passed breeding advice have passed paper tests with flying colors... all four of the foals that passed breeding advice. XD His first intact daughter comes of age next month though. So excited to see what she throws.
  • This guy is at 50%. Half his foals were altered by SBA. All of his mares had full pasture bonus. This is one of my lines I'm trying to bring back from the brink of extinction so some of the horses are sub-par.
    image

This guy is at 11% alter rate with only 1 out of 9 foals being altered by SBA. All his mares had full pasture bonus. @Goobanni this guy is awesome. You are doing a great job with your breeding program.
    image
    GB Tears of Snow G2

I will post more as I breed my pastures.
  • 50% is good - one of the best but 11% with SBA is amazing! Wow, good job! Says something about your mares too.
Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
  • Both of those lines are my lines im bringing back from extinction. I can't wait to see what my Prodigious line does. That's a bigger herd and are my other extinction line. Once I see all three that will give me a better idea of my mares.
  • image
    DP World So Cold V

He had 31 pasture babies this year. Of them, 22 stayed intact through SBA. Some I altered after because they didn't fit my lines. So he's at 70% intact for this year.

    image
    DP Knights Legend RS

He had 39 pasture babies this year. Of them, 28 stayed intact through SBA. I altered the ones that didn't fit my breeding program later. So he's at 72% intact this year.

They are both C papered, and the ice stud is a little uneven, so I'm happy that they are keeping so many intact right now. I'm sure if I was breeding higher papered animals my percentages would be lower.
  • I should add that mine were all C papered mares and most had their 30 day bonus.
  • Just bred my Prodigious boys.
All the mares had full pasture bonus.

This guy had 13 foals. 4 of them were altered by SBA. That leaves him with a 30% alter rate.

These two boys are brother and compare AGA each other so they are really close as far as breeding ability. It makes it very interesting for the research.
