AGA sire
-
This guy had a 5% boost but only tests AGA sire would you still breed him or not even though his paper level is higher then sire and is where it should be at 2 gen?
Mystical Freak -
I am not the one to give advice! However if you decide he doesn't fit your program would you consider selling him?DivineDreams ~ 30908

Even though his paper level is superior to his sire, the fact that he compared as good as means exactly that. If you have the hbs, try comparing him to another B papered second gen. If he is worse, I personally wouldn't use him since my goal is to have superior breeding each generation.
-
I put a ton of money into him so he has to work lol but I just want to know what others think and how bad it would be to breed him anyways
-
Ok ill do that Ritsika witch stud should I test him to ?one of his brothers that I know is superior to their sire?
-
Personally, if I were you, I'd either geld and show him or sell him. I wouldn't use him for breeding. When I'm assessing stallions, I always ask myself 'what does this horse add to my breeding program'. Ideally, improving my breeding lines is one of the answers. But, since he tested AGA his sire, after 5% boost, that's definitely not the case.
I might consider temporarily keeping a stallion who is AGA a previous generation if they bring something new to my breeding program - either a new gene or combination of genes. However, I'd try to breed or find a stallion with similar genes but that is superior to replace him, when I could. It looks like you already have the below stallion who is genetically identical but superior to his sire. This means Abstract Dreamer is a better stallion than Mystical Freak. Given that, I don't think Mystical Freak would bring anything new to your program.
Abstract DreamerThanked by 1StarfireAcres -
Yes you are right I was going to use Abstract dreamer but he is shorter then I like so I was going to use Mystical Freak because he is quite a bit taller I know it's stupid but they have to be tall or I don't like them it's an OCD thing taller then 16.2 is perfect
-
And he does not have the flaxen gene that I'm trying to add in
-
From what I've noticed, there certainly are no rules for breeding! If you'd rather breed for color and really want to use him, I'd say go for it. I'd still opt for geld and try the same breeding next season, but there's no right way to do it.
-
You could make him a mare if you are worried about breeding him since he's only AGA. But in the end it's up to you :)
-
The question is -- Are you willing to accept lower quality 3rd gens in exchange for that extra height (or what ever gene or trait makes you consider keeping a given AGA stallion)? If the answer is yes, then that is fine. There is no rule in this game that says we all have to breed for the greatest possible quality increase with each generation. Many of us (including me) try to, but if there are other factors more important to you, you are free to breed your horses however you wish. It might decrease the sale value of his foals, but if you don't plan to try to sell them, then that is no problem. The fact that each player is able to set whatever goals they want for their breeding program, instead of everyone competing for the same goal, is one of the best parts of this game.I was jllewis on the old forum.

He is still a bit better than his sire since he is papered higher, but just barely and not enough to be considered superior. If you have a brother of his that tests superior to him, I would geld him, if it were me. Even if you make him into a mare, he will still be at the low end of red and not really a good enough breeding prospect to truly increase your quality. I hate when it comes down to making decisions like that, especially with one of the really pretty boys that fit everything I want with my bloodlines. The only other thing you could do is clone him and then boost the clone, but is it really worth putting that much more money into him when you could potentially breed out a superior colt without needing to do any boosting. He certainly is lovely, though!

He would've been snipped before I had even spent a dime on him. I only keep colts that are superior to their sire. Just because he is papered higher, doesn't necessarily mean he is much better than his sire. AGA, means just that.Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms

I sent you a PM StarfireAcres :)
-
Yes you are all right I'm going to see how many points he has and sell him if he is not a good shower I was thinking of turning him back into a mare but I have already put a ton into him I think ill cut my losses and sell him for as much as I can from all the GMT work I done I'm really bummed he didn't work it makes me want to cry

Aww sweetie! Im so sorry!DivineDreams ~ 30908
Breeder of KitM, W10, W3, Livers, Chocolates, Brown, S+, Pearl, Macchiato, Nexus, and WaterColor! -
Story of my life i had a beautiful brindle this season with every gene I breed for from my best foundation stud and I put a 5% boost on the brindle foal and he failed strict breeding advice and was gelded after I unaltered and boosted him I've had a bad season
-
Honestly I wouldn't SBA a horse I unalter let alone put a boost on! Too much of a risk!DivineDreams ~ 30908
Breeder of KitM, W10, W3, Livers, Chocolates, Brown, S+, Pearl, Macchiato, Nexus, and WaterColor! -
Id say don't spend a bunch of money on trying to make a horse better unless you know that the boost will definitely improve them.
This horse was nice, yes but you have others who are very similar and can always repeat the cross next season. -
Yes I could have repeated the cross but the odds of getting one identical are very slim and I would have to wait for him to age I had to try it's a gamble boosting a horse because you just don't know how far away from superior they are I bet one more boost he would have been superior to sire
-
Your mare Mystic Moonlight by the same parents is the same age and her only difference is that shes 16.2 (.1 shorter) and doesnt have flaxen (which you could add to her) and change her back to a stallion. And shes also got a higher PT score.
-
Starfire, if you wish to keep that horse as a stallion, you can. It is your breeding program and what you choose to do is totally up to you. That is one of the things I love about this game.
You could keep both the males and see if the shorter one produces tall horses and the tall one produces quality horses, and save any decisions until after the next breeding season. -
Yes true moon but what if Mystic Moonlight is not supirior I'd do the same think I did to Mystic Freak who was not better then sire and thanks Dragon Run I'll keep that in mind :)
-
I might change Mystical Freak to a mare and turn Mystic Moonlight to a stud
-
@StarfireAcres, sorry about poofing from the conversation, I got a little busy.
But I agree with the majority of the conversations that have been added, having a lower quality stud wouldn't benefit your herd and you would end up spending even more money on the resulting foals trying to get them to meet your standard.
Though I can sympathize with your dilemma of having spent so much on Mystical Freak, I would agree that cutting your losses and either selling him or turning him back into a mare would be best. As a mare, the foals might not make the cut though so it might be easier on your herd to sell him to an interested member that doesn't have a superior stallion yet.
And before you change Mystic Moonlight into a stud, why not wait for next season? In a little over six days you can try the combination again and maybe get exactly what you want with quality! :D
As tempting as rushing is you can't always get the perfect foal every time even if you spend a lot of money. So enjoy the wait and let the anticipation build and when that perfect foal comes you can feel a great sense of reward. There is always next season. :) -
Oh my he is beautiful :x I would love to get some straws from if they come available
-
Hi StarfireAcres, please consider my offer. Thanks ;;)
-
I'm gonna say, you spent a bunch of money on the horse. If it makes YOU happy who cares about other people's opinions. The "most correct" answer isn't always the one that makes you happy and living by other people's expectations isn't the same as living your own joy. If you want to use him, then use him.

I have to make a decision now because both Mystical Freak and Mystic Moonlight are 4 so ill just turn Mystical Freak to a mare and turn Mystic Moonlight to a stud there is a good chance she will be superior and if not she is not that far away from being superior and thank you Ammit although everyone is right about quality I want my main stud to be good quality and I think turning Mystic Moonlight to a stud is a good idea I might just sell Mystical Freak in that case it will save me 2 GMT
-
Ok I turned Mystic Moonlight to a stud after having to selling her A papered black liver Kitm A papered superior foal back to the game but luckily I already had the same A papered Hom DP Kitm stud that tested AGA the colt I had to delete so that was good so Mystic Moonlight tested superior without any boosts so he is perfect he will work nicely for my 2g foals and I turned my other stud Abstract Dreamer who is also superior to a mare and is in pasture so she will replace Both the mares I took out of the pasture and ill sell the AGA stud Mystical Freak for as much as I can get ill do an auction for him thanks everyone I am very happy!

I am so happy for you. =D>
