I've been looking at mini's
  • My kids have been asking for a horse. We don't have a lot of land so I've been looking at mini's I found this little guy. He's so cute I thought I would share his pictures.

  • He looks silver bay to me too. He's a very sweet little stud.
  • With minis you have to squat down to take photos to see what they really look like. :) Very nice looking boy. I breed registered minis.
  • I <3 minis! Omg. Really love the minis bred by Ltd! Magic Man is just so nice! Love his off spring! Buckaroo lines are nice too

  • Minis are the best! I raise them and have more than I should admit lol. Very fun to show too! He is very cute!
  • I use to show our farrier's when I was in high school with my cousin's. We each had our own horse that we got to bond with and show. Mine was a fat little leo app gelding named Candy Man. I did a lot of obstacle courses with him. He was to fat and lazy to care about yellow rain jackets, balloons or tarps dragging behind him so he always did really well lol.
  • Minis are so cute xD I kinda do want one....but I don't want to overload my bf with horses. He says we HAVE to get a Shetland though. We're going to make "battle armour" for it and use it for driving, so it'll be out battle chariot pony.

  • I really want to get a mini so my horse could have a friend when we bring him home :)) I'm just scared he'll try to run down the mini...
  • Lol @mistidog - Id be more worried that the mine would go after him! They can be bossy little things!

  • I use to train minis when (I was younger) for little kids to use. I did hunt jump, trail, and games with them so the kid could do anything with the mini. I loved the minis I use to have a little black Appaloosa that had one blue eye and he was the bes little pony!!!
  • @DivineDreams, my barn where I board him has a mini pony that they use for lessons for small kids, and he's actually tried to run her down in the pasture... she's an old and fiesty thing though and doesn't let him near her now :))
  • @mistidog- "mine" was mini lol gotta love fast typing lmao

Yes minis can usually hold their own!

  • fj1482 "I did a lot of obstetrical courses with him. " :)) I got a mental image of a pony learning to midwife! I love our grade mini, he is a mess. West sticks at 36"' and my daughter was teeny enough to ride him when she was little. When she grew out of him he became m mares buddy. The older I get the harder the ground gets, and all of a sudden a pony cart looks real appealing! I drag logs out of the woods with him, and my daughter likes to jump him in hand.
  • rofl don't you just love spell check
  • I moved this out of HJ2 talk.
  • Oops sorry about that. Thank you :)

Not quite a mini, but I have Shetlands, the little guys are addictive.

  • OMG those babies are so pretty.
  • Thank you, I have 2 more but I figured I put up enough photos, the black one in the photos is my first home bred pony, she is so cheeky but everyone that meets her wants to keep her.

  • Love Cheeky Ponies! Oh my goodness @NorthernStars they are exquisite! You are so lucky and blessed! Makes me long to own horses again! I miss it so much!
*Edit* I just read in another post that you are from Shetland! I have always wanted to visit. The island calls my heart home. You truly are blessed!

  • My daughter (2 years old) was promised a birthday ride on a mini pony. Just waiting for a day where it is not ungodly hot. While I was promised she will be wearing protective gear, I can't help but be worried that if she freaks out that the horse will too. My daughter is very skittish toward new things.

  • @Timber, most ponies are bomb proof :)) I used to volunteer my horse for pony rides, and we made sure none of the horses were skittish before using them! :)
  • I'm going to breathe a slight sigh of relief seeing as the owners of the pony seem to have a much better head on their shoulders than their father who is my Father in law's boss (Little bit of a dim bulb that one) I think they had picked out a little silver bay for her. Cute little thing. They also said if she does well on him, they want to saddle her up on a full sized horse and see how she does. If she does well there, she'll have free riding lessons for life.

  • Aww haha. Where I board my horse, there used to be a gentle giant horse that they'd use for lessons, and it was the funniest thing to see little kids up on him! He's like 18 hands tall, and I once saw a 3/4 year old up on him! :))
  • Oh there was a horse at the stable my FIL works at. He was known to bite anyone who came in contact with him but he was always very gentle with my daughter and apparently still sniffs my FIL for her whenever he comes by. That horse was called Cat's horse from there on out even though someone else owned him. I really need to figure out who owns that horse and maybe look into reuniting them at some point in the future.

  • Aww, maybe a new horse whisperer? :-/ Hope the lessons go well, it's best to get them addicted while they're young! :))
  • lol I was addicted when I was young despite never coming in contact with a horse. My mom was one of those moms that assumed the worst ALWAYS. She was vehemently convinced that if I touched a horse it would bite me. So I've never ridden or even touched a horse. But if I can give Cat something she loves that I couldn't have, that would make me all the happier. At the very least I've been looking into building her a model equine center with toy horses to play with.

  • When I was younger (wow I say that like I'm old, I'm only 15 :)) ) I really liked horses, so my mom got me lessons for my 6th birthday. She thought it would be a 1 time thing, but almost 10 years later, I still like it :))
  • And I've seen parents taking lessons with their kids, why not give it a try if you're still interested? :) last week, I saw a mom out doing a jump course with her son :))
  • I've been thinking about that. Is horse riding something that could perhaps held strengthen a messed up back? My doctor has been barking at me for physical therapy.

  • @Timber Absolutely it can strengthen it! Just make sure you tell your coach that you have back issues. Take everything super slow. Lots of gentle work with you on the lunge line at a walk working on balance and stretching! Gentle! And slowly move to trot when your body is ready! And make sure the horse you lesson on is super quiet and laid back and has a soft jog!
I have back injuries from a car accident and sports. I also have fm, migraines and chronic whiplash! So yes riding helps alot! It kept me loose and limber! I miss it so much but horse ownerahip is not in the budget atm.

There is therapeutic riding and use horse back riding as a therapy for injuries and disabilities!

  • I have always wanted to teach lessons to riders who were nervous and had back issues as I know from experience what it is like!
