lethal foal??
-
I bred this mare to my stud and I got a lethal foal when I have bred that pair several of times
RS Fuel To The Fire -
this is the stud I'm confused his genes are not lethal I thought
Magical Texas Tea RS -
this is the mare I bred with Magical Texas Tea but she has the same genes as the other one
RS Fuel To The Fire -
I think its the interaction of his Kit^m and her Kit^sb1 but someone who is more confident in their genetics may tell you otherwise and provide you a more thorough explanation. There's a table that explains the lethality of different pairings of white genes but I don't know exactly where it is.Red Rock Ranch

I'm not for sure, but I think splash adds to WF? Don't fully believe this though, because I'm still learning about lethal combinations.ID 19665

The risky gene combination is the KitM KitW2, which is lethal if the foal has large or extensive white factor, if I am reading the chart right. You have been able to get live foals before because there is only a 25% chance that a foal of these horses will inherit both of those genes, and even if it does, the chances of high white factor are fairly low since the parents are light and minimal. However, the possibility does exist, and this foal had the bad luck to get the lethal combination.I was jllewis on the old forum.

wow I did not know kitm and white 2 is lethal I had a foal from this pairing that has kitm and white 2 but his white factor was minimal I'm guessing the foal that died had a bigger white factor wow that's so weird I learn something new everyday haha to bad I had to learn the hard way right

It's easy to forget that there is a large amount of variability built into almost everything in this game. Just as in real life, there's a considerable uncertainty factor that comes into play. It can be frustrating when the uncertainty pushes some aspect into a range that we really wish it would not, and sometimes those are the times that get fixed into our memories.
On the other hand, there really are times when the variability swings the other way. My prime example is the C papered ordinary create stallion that I put into a pasture with a bunch of ordinary create mares. That was back shortly after pastures were introduced. At this distance in time, I no longer remember if the mares got 30 days in pasture before the first breeding, but that stallion gave me 4 A papered sons in the first two seasons, and 3 of them were in the first year. I don't believe that I swapped out any of the mares for the second, because I liked to leave them there until they had 3 foals and I could paper them.
De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

The only thing that W2 is definitely ok with is tobiano and roan - everything else has at least a small chance at being lethal white. It and W are pretty hard to cross with any other Kit gene
-
hum yea I don't normally breed W2 I only breed those two mares in hopes for the foal to get the sabino 1 gene not the W2 so I forget about how lethal W2 can be and I did not know W2 and kitm were bad together with a high white factor and if I would have known they can be lethal I wouldn't have bred that pair because my stud with kitm throws a lot of foals with high white factor
-
Best idea is to check the kit lethality chart for any time you're going to breed 2 horses with kit genes together (or put it right into a horse's notes which genes they might be lethal with).Thanked by 1StarfireAcres

I have a smaller farm so what I do whenever I have new horses come into season I have a file for them listing the horse that they are safe with. I choose their mate from their personal list it saves me from continually having to look up the chart.Thanked by 1StarfireAcres
