Okay seriously I'm about to take next breeding season off! I bred all five of my mares and I only had two foal pass testing! I understand that I need show horses, and that's why I'm keeping them, but I need a break I went and bought nicer stallions for breeding program so I could maybe even have a chance to improve my herd but if this keeps on happening to me then that's never going to happen. Last breeding season I had one pass testing and the season before that I only had one pass as well.
-
Keeping mares in pastures for 30 days will give them a breeding bonus, so the chances of an intact foal are better. Also, if you breed unevenly, your chances of getting altered foals goes up. I did the same thing this year. My mares got a boost, but they were all yellow or low red and I had them in with a b stud. All but one got altered. I needed show horses, but I was still disappointed.
-
Unfortunately it is going to happen more often than not. I've got tons of mares I've bred, and more than often they end up spayed/gelded, and I've been playing since June 2013. It takes patience and time to build up a good herd. Also you should put your mares in a pasture and leave them there to build up the "pasture bonus" as it is called, which if left in the pasture over 30 days, helps push the mares to create a better foal, and hopefully one that is better than both of it's parents, and will stay intact. This is not a game for immediate satisfaction, but one to draw and build on and work to get your goals.Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms

I would also start from the ground up. I know there is lots of pretty colors and things but as a beginner go check out here.

This is FR (Foundation Rescue). These are the best foundation horses short of getting an RS (Rank Special). I would pick a few mares and a stallion or two that you like. Put all the mares in the pasture and leave them there. That will increase your chances of an intact foal. Like Kerredan said this is a long term game. I would be more than happy to help you out when it comes to some other things. If you would like you can message me and we can talk about getting a hold of colors or genes that you might want and how to breed to increase your chances of intact foals. -
awe I'm sorry I feel your pain I breed same paper levels at all times but no pasture bonus so I have been getting lot of alters as well its frustrating but it takes a long while to get use to the game but you will get there ask a lot of questions and seek other players help oh and use your pastures I'm saving up for some big pastures right now.
-
I am with what everyone else is saying. Looking through foundation rescue for good mares and a full pasture bonus helps. Also consider that 2 intact foals out of five is not bad at all. I am behind on breeding but so far out of 16, I have 4 intact. Some were snipped by advice, and some by me for low paper levels. But doing the math, I have a 25% pass rate while you have a 40% pass rate - you have me beat! (Quick someone check my math). Don't get discouraged.
-
Yes ripshin your math is correct. 2 out of 5 goals is actually a really good percentage. I don't know what mine is but mine is probably even worse if I took the time to look at it. Maybe I will be back after I have a peek at my own.
-
Okay I did the math depending on the stallion I'm hovering around 20 to 23% alter rate. Some of them altered by strict breeding advice and others altered by me because they didn't paper high enough or because they didn't compare high enough for me.
-
Whats really funny is there is a bigger jump between my small herds and my large herds. When I say large herds I'm only talking 30 or more mares and small is 10 or less. My ten or less herds I'm around 40% to 50% alter rate my large herds i'm around 20% to 23%.

I bred my 4th gens last month and came up with maybe 4 foals after all was said and done. From maybe thirty. I think ten of them passed testing? And I have a year and a half of experience judging matches. :D
One element at the 4th gen, though, is that the last generation was also As and Blues, so I can't quite be sure that I'm breeding the right mare to the right stud. I can look at their AFPTs and see if they're in about the right range, but of course they have to have bred a few foals before.
Anyway, I'm really tired, so what I mean after the rambling is that even experienced players take some time to get an established group of combinations right. :)Thanked by 1AtA -
2 out of five pass testing? You are lucky! I bred 200 mares to get 27 intact, only 11 of which I want to keep.Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms
-
I just started a new line. Of the 16 foals from the foundation stud so far bred all have been altered. I have 36 more to go before end of the season, I have hope at least one will make it out intact, if not there's always next month.
-
2 out of 5 is 100% normal. Just like real life most horses are not worth breeding too. Even if they come from good stock. If you want to breed just anything regardless of ability don't use the testing. You only need to do that if you WANT the game to alter your sub par horses.

Yea, I have about a 10% pass rating so don't feel too bad. (With my discernment and testing). Even less for stallions.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
