this mare must be a bad breeder?
  • I think this mare is a bad breeder and I'm thinking of spaying her I got her from a normal create from the public sales and she has had almost 10 foals and they are all alters but the weird thing is she passed SBA but she is not a good breeder at all

  • She might have thrown good show pony's though.I honestky don't know...
  • Though PT score doesn't indicate breeding ability, the average foal PT score would help determine if she is producing better quality foals or not.

Also, it looks like she has never been in pasture and accumulated the full pasture bonus. The foals appear to be test tube foals, which are difficult to have intact because of the random variable.
  • If she's a normal create that passed SBA then you know she's a good breeder for a foundation. You haven't PTd most of her foals so it's hard to tell if she's giving you foals that aren't very good or if she just keeps giving you some nice quality high PT show foals. If you're breeding her by hand or pulling eggs, you'll end up with a lot more altered foals than you would if you bred her in the pasture with a full pasture bonus. Personally, I would put her in a pasture so she can benefit from the full pasture bonus breeding boost. That will give you a greater chance of getting intact foals from her.

  • yea sadly my 2g kitm dp mares are in my large pasture and I have 3 other 10 spotted pastures and they are full with different kinds of coats I breed for
  • but thanks for the advice :)
  • Oh, that makes sense. Pasture space is tough sometimes. I know I have packed pastures that I squeak a few in every once in a while.

That being the case, keep giving her a chance with the live cover/straw/embryo breeding. I had a ratio of 1:11 intact:alter with one mare. Her quality was perfect foundation and the sire was perfect foundation too, but the foals must have been "about as good as" or "slight inferior" because she had so many alters. The intact foal was great! It just takes a lot of hbs and time when you don't use the pasture bonus.
  • yes that's true but it takes a lot of time and money to buy pastures to since there are a ton of different genes and generations it would be impossible to put all the mares I breed in pasture tat would be so so expensive to and you only get one foal per mare
  • This is why I spend my money on pastures instead of boosts and gmting everything under the sun. I have several pastures and keep one 10 mare pasture open at all times so I can rotate mares in and out and breed certain mares. I feel as if it is more conducive for breeding to spend my real money on pastures and let them do the work, rather than waste my money on boosting those that are poorer quality in hopes of getting nice horses quicker.
  • @StarfireAcres- would you consider selling her?
  • @wendolyne bet me to it....I will happily give her a home and see what I can get from her :)

  • @StarfireAcres you may want to try forum auction if you consider selling her :)
  • If anything try putting her out in pasture for a month and see what that does if anything sell her
