Rules on Selling Non-Colored SpM offspring
  • If I get some offspring who dont inherit the SpM gene but are intact, should they be altered before placing for sale since someone could GMT the gene on them?
  • If you hang on to them for a few days it won't matter since Splash M will disappear from the GMT lab soon.
  • I wasnt thinking about that. Thanks. :)
  • Otherwise, I'm not sure what the rule would be about selling them intact if you need the hbs now and want to sell them right away. I don't see how someone who purchases an intact foal that missed Splash M and GMTs the Splash M back would be doing anything wrong, since it's completely within the rules to GMT missed genes back onto a lined horse even if you didn't breed it. But I don't know if the closed genes come with extra rules which aren't explicitly stated anywhere. My guess would be that doing this would break some sort of rule, because I'd imagine that some of the people who purchased Splash M because they like the idea of a closed gene would find this upsetting.

For those people who are thinking about doing this, I would advise against GMTing Splash M back onto a lined horse if you didn't already put it onto a foundation. If doing that breaks some sort of unwritten rule and the Splash M is removed from the horse, I highly doubt that you'd get your GMT token back. These closed genes kind of remind me of an elite country club; if you want in, you'd better be prepared to spend a lot of money. There are no shortcuts or cheaper ways to get in. Which is why I personally choose to stay away from them and go for genes like w8 instead lol. If I'm going to purchase a more expensive gene, I want to be able to share it with everyone and not just people who also bought the gene. But that's just me personally and I know there are many people who feel otherwise, which is why it's great that both types of genes exist. There's something for everybody here so we can all play the game how we want. I think that's part of what makes HJ so special; there isn't just one "right" way to play the game. :D

  • Being a closed gene, only those who have a foundation horse with the Splash M gene can have it. So, someone who already has a foundation with the gene could buy the foal and GMT the missed gene back on the horse. However, someone who didn't buy the gene for a foundation could not.

While the gene is available in the GMT lab, selling the foal through the Macchiato chat is probably the safest option. That way, you know the person who bought it already has a foundation line.
  • If I remember correctly Ammit said any closed gene the game simply wont let you do it so you don't have to worry about it. The game will take care of it if it does have SpM and even if it's not altered I have a feeling the game would not allow them to GMT it on to them.
  • Good to know. I did end up gelding the colts that I wanted to auction just so I could see where they papered for free. Both were B so thats great news. So far all tested G2's from my stud are papering where they should. I still have a couple to test. Only 3 out of 8 foals got the SpM. Which is okay. Glad to know there's an outlet for any non-keepers who didnt get the gene.

It did let me put the colts in the public auction intact and gelded.
  • Oh the game would let you, but it would then take it back off and you would NOT be refunded.
