Breeding Boost?
-
Say I have a stallion who has a PT of 9.9 and is consistent. (Not perfect foundation HH).
Now say I breed him 10 times and wind up with 8 altered foals--all of which were snipped on regular breeding advice.
Of those 10, only 3 are consistent, and all 10 have PTs lower than his.
Say the mares are of sound quality (not PF, but not horrible either).
Would it be a safe assumption that he would not be a good producer? In that situation, would how much of a breeding boost would you apply, if any?
Just a hypothetical situation--trying to make sure I know how to determine good breeding stock in the future. :)ID# 25784 Home of quality Artylian Drafts & Cobs

Something similar happened to me a couple seasons ago with an RS too, but I don't quite understand because the stud was equivalent to a PF.
Am much confused. Unless I've overestimated my mares. :-? Oops. :))ID# 25784 Home of quality Artylian Drafts & Cobs

Remember how big the available random number selections are, though. You're talking about a range from @ 8.9 to 10.4 (depending) each, for the mare and the sire! I'm not going to do calculations because math, but check out this thread again, especially the chart towards the bottom: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/10182/general-information-showing-vs-breeding#Item_3
(This is all assuming that the breeding scores are anything like the performance scores)Thanked by 1BlueValley -

@BlueValley, if the stallion you're talking about is a regular foundation stallion, I'd put him through SBA if you have a premium upgrade. I think SBA has a pretty high quality requirement for foundations so if he passes you know he's at least decent. Or you can do a comparison between him and a perfect foundation/PF equivalent RS stallion. If he comp tests as good as a PF stallion, you know he's either PF quality or pretty close to PF quality.Thanked by 1BlueValley

To give him a breeding boost, he would have to be no older than 4, and I'm sure you would have to sell all his offspring back to the game.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

@Windward Nearly all my stock's put through SBA. :) That's a really great point about the comparison test! I didn't even think of that. :\">
@Sandy I kinda figured, like a GMT! :DID# 25784 Home of quality Artylian Drafts & Cobs

Good. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the limitations.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
