What is Kit Promoter/KP?
  • What is Kit Promoter/KP?Is it the hazed patch of white on some horses? I know that it is a closed gene that you can buy/GMT(I think you can GMT it). Also could you find a picture example?
    I'm just curious, thank you!

  • You can buy it from the GMT lab :) I want to say it cost 5 for each gene. I want to say you also need 2 white factors on for it to show but I could be wrong.

Here are some of mine :)

  • KP isn't a closed gene, it is open to anyone and you can either purchase an existing horse with KP from someone willing to sell them or you can create one on the GMT lab, it costs 5 GMTs each copy, so around 2,500,000 HBs or $45 game money.

KP only shows when the horse has two KP genes(homozygous) and ALSO two KIT genes.

A horse can still be KP(either het or hmz) without the KIT genes, but it won't express on the coat.

  • Yes, KP can be purchased from the GMT for 5 GMTs a copy. In order for a horse express KP and be eligible for the KP breeders club, it must have 2 copies of KP and have 2 Kit genes (doesn't matter which ones). It's actually not a closed gene since anyone can purchase it from the GMT lab at any time. Most KP owners just choose not to put their KP horses up for public breeding and stick to private buddy breeding and straws because they don't want to see people keeping poor quality horses intact because they are breeding for color over quality. Just look at the really terrible quality of intact ice horses that go through the public auction and you'll see what happens when people breed for color first. GP is also the same as KP, it's not a closed gene but you won't generally see it up for public breeding because people want to keep their lines quality.

  • If you want to start a KP line but can't afford to put it on a foundation, you will find many KP owners (like me!) are willing to sell you straws or intact het or hom KP foals as long as you agree to breed for quality first and follow the breeding rules on a stallion's page if you are using straws or private buddy breeding. :D

  • I have to tell myself I (maybe 2) projects at a time!I'll think about it.
  • Also, just as an FYI the only genes that are actually closed are Axiom, some of the Ice genes (I believe Ice 9 and up), and Macchiato. Ammit recently fixed the auction so that these closed genes can't be entered and they can't be sold on the sales board. If you accidentally end up with a horse that has a closed gene and you don't own a foundation with that gene, you still get to keep the horse but the closed gene(s) will be removed. The other Ice genes and Nexus can't be sold on the public sales board but they are not closed genes and you can buy them from the public auction or I believe from private sales. Now, finding quality intact Nexus and Ice horses in the PA is a totally different story, but you can usually find some lovely altered show prospects with Nexus or Ice if you're like me and you like to look at all your pretty show ponies lol.

Other expensive or rare genes like Splash 3, White 10, Snowflake, satin, White M, White 8, White 3, KP, GP etc. are often kept in house or only sold to people who already own the gene but there are actually no restrictions on who can purchase or own those genes; the owners just usually choose not to make them available to the general public but they could if they wanted to.

  • It's actually a relatively new thing on this server to not sell those genes to people that don't already have them in their barns. I've been playing over 18 months and this just started happening in the last month or two.

Edit: Talking about w8, satin, splash 3, white m(manchado is what it's modeled after), etc.
  • I also don't mind selling straws or eggs as long as people breed for quality :) I love sharing my horses with others. I also sell snowflake straws and eggs :)
  • @kassierae, I wonder if seeing all the terrible quality intact ice horses with awful pedigrees in the public auction caused people to not want to share their expensive or LE genes with the general public. It seems like the increase in restrictions on genes coincided with the large increase in poor quality flashy horses in the PA. Personally, I'll sell straws from studs with GMT only genes to people who don't own the gene (except for brand new players since spending a lot of money of flashy genes isn't really the best idea when you're still learning how the game works) because I can ask people to follow certain quality standards when they buy straws. Those intact ice horses in auction generally make me cringe, especially when I see new players bidding large amounts on them because they have fancy genes. I'd hate to see that happen with my studs so I avoid public breeding with my special stallions. I don't do buddy breeding with most of my foundation studs just because I usually end up using most or all of their live covers on my pasture mares or RS/exceptional mares up for public brood.
  • The horrible ice horses were happening way before this started, so I'm not sure. I share my guys with people on occasion, usually when I need quick cash lol. I have a pumpkin spice KP stallion, I tend to auction about 5 or so straws per season, but usually use him for myself in my pastures. So I'm not sure when or why it started. Just seems weird to me :))

  • Here is a post made in December when Ammit decided to make it impossible to put most ice and Nexus horses up for public sale. It explains why she was making that decision and notes where these horses can be sold.

  • Axiom, Ice 9 and up and Macchiato are the only closed genes.
Nexus is still in the public sales (I have picked up a couple)...just not very common ;)

  • @Goobanni, do you mean the public auction? Or have you seen some for public sale? Because I know Ammit has said that Nexus isn't allowed on the public sales board so if you're seeing Nexus horses there you might want to make a post in the bug report forum. I don't think it's supposed to be possible to put Nexus horses up for public sale.
