I would use this mare as she is an RS and Red papered :)
SUR Rhythm of Chocolate -
I'd use something that is RS and yellow papered if the mare is Red the foal will have more of a chance to get snipped..same paper level would work better although elements could effect the foal because I used a yellow mare for the milestone straw and I got a spayed filly
-
Almost all my RS crosses have been snipped :/ that's why I'm worried. I don't have any mares to breed till next season so I have plenty of time. Should I SBA the foal? That's my usual routine but I'm so paranoid lol I really don't wanna loose this baby
-
Ok what about this girl as she would be my next choice and she is still Red papered. And I only use BA so you can do one or both. But if the foal isn't snipped on BA I would leave it, but thats just me. Hope this helps :D
OC Robo Girl -
Or do what I did and get a Perfect Foundation mare. It seems people are having most luck with them. I also think minimal white. But in the end it's down to luck.
Good luck with whatever you go for :) -
A perfect foundation mare and a Yellow papered RS mare are identical ability wise. If most of the foals from your RS mares are getting altered, you might be breeding them to stallions that have breeding ability that's either a lot higher or a lot lower than your mare's breeding ability. Or you might just be having bad luck. I got my first 2 brindle foals this season but they were both altered by regular breeding advice. :(
Personally, I would use a Perfect Foundation mare, a mare you purchased from foundation rescue (also would be a perfect foundation), or a yellow papered RS mare (also a perfect foundation. I would not use a Top Notch producer because those are not always perfectly consistent and inconsistency can sometimes cause breeding advice to alter a foal. Personally, I wouldn't use an Exceptionally Perfect red papered foundation mare because when you breed 2 horses that have different breeding ability levels, you are more likely to end up with a foal that gets altered by breeding advice. However, if the foal stays intact there is a much greater chance of it papering B/Red as opposed to C/Yellow, so that might be a risk that you're willing to take. I'd stay away from exceptional producers and stick to exceptionally perfect RS mares if you want to go that route because exceptional producers are not always perfectly consistent. -
Also, I would only use regular breeding advice and not SBA when you test your foal. SBA is intended for people who have too many horses and are looking to alter some. Your foal will have some rare or limited edition genes so you're not going to be looking for a reason to alter it. I would PT test the foal and paper it before you use breeding advice. That way, if it's inconsistent or doesn't paper where you'd like it to, you can GMT it consistent or use a breeding boost before you put it through breeding advice. However, if the foal papers Showable Only or Failed, I would just go ahead and snip it because even with a 5% breeding boost it's still not going to be very good and it may not even make it to C/Yellow.

I'm trying to find either a 9.9 or 10 PT yellow mare with an AFPT above 10 with lots of color... in just worried #-o
-
I would go plain and just use a PF mare.Thats what I did and my filly stayed intact. Not to say that they cant be spayed.I worked for me so... :)
(also don't stress too much!) -
Alright I just created a solid chestnut mare I'll use her
-
He got cut and I wanna cry he had a better PT score than mom and dad and was a C idk what went wrong :'(
OC Please Be Lucky -
I didn't even do SBA on him :/ what can I do
-
Okay I unaltered him. Now how can I fix what went wrong or is their nothing I can do?
-
I don't think there is anything to be done. I'm a little perturbed by all the people saying their foals got altered, even with good mares.Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.
Striving to become a quality Draft breeder. -
I even boosted him and still got cut. I unaltered him and I'll just leave him untested
-
Make sure to turn off testing!
-
I'm guessing he got snipped because he is C, and he should be red. I'm sorry Oak.
(PS PT scores have nothing to do with breeding ability, I don't know if they play in with BA but) -
Remember everyone, even with 2 horses of identical breeding ability, the chances of a foal getting snipped by BA is still pretty good - even good pairings have not small chances of throwing bad foals, or foals that are good showers but bad breeders, etc. It's really not surprising that a bunch of these foals are getting snipped - think of how many of the foals you breed each season that get snipped.
