How common is the Pearl gene in this game?
-
Hey,
Does anybody know how common it is to have a horse with the Pearl gene? -
Not very. Some RS horses have it like Kings Ransom so you can breed it in!DivineDreams ~ 30908
Breeder of KitM, W10, W3, Livers, Chocolates, Brown, S+, Pearl, Macchiato, Nexus, and WaterColor! -
It's pretty common as far as lined horses. It's also available in the GMT lab for 2 gmts. I have quite a few worth pearl.Thanked by 1MoonAcre Stables

Here is a foal that I bred randomly and came out as a Pearl!
This is under one of my accounts called Travler -
@JRGroove All the Nanotech Primer creates are het pearl :)
-
Yeah I wouldnt say its all that rare. But that foal is pearl because your stallion has one copy :)
-
There are 20,884 horses carrying the Pearl allele of Cream in the game at this moment. It's not the most common color, but I wouldn't call it particularly rare, either.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
SandyCreek Farm: ID# 441
also playing H&J1 as SandyCreek Acres: ID# 137592 -
20884 out of 1000000+ is only 2%. If that number is horses carrying the allele and not horses expressing it, then the number of horses that actually are pearl is much less. I would not call it common at all.
There are 2550 hom pearl horses, so that is 0.25%.
There are 3750 cream pearl horses, 0.37%.#28036 -
Oops never mind. Although I'd imagine the number of Pearl horses is going to increase significantly since two of the Rank Specials that every user recieved (Nanotech and King's Ransom) are Pearl carriers.
-
The 20884 (2%) is het pearl. Het pearl does not show though. So the gene is only in 2% of horses while only 0.62% express it as pearl or cream pearl.#28036
-
Only 300k horses are currently living in the game though, so the numbers are a few times higher
-
Also not all the horses are tested lol. But yeah its not out of a million horses its only out of the living ones which makes the numbers much higher.
And there are actually a few pearl carrying rank specials that we've gotten a few times. -
Ok 20884 of 300000 is 6.9%
2550 is 0.85%
3750 is 1.2%
For comparison, the newest gene machatto is in 0.2% of the population, ice1 is in 1.2%, brindle is 1.45%, silver is in 11% and the cream allele is in just over 17%.
#28036 -
I never paid to GMT it onto a horse and now have a pearl pony simply by breeding a pearl stallion that was up for brood to my mare. I didn't even do it on purpose to get the gene, I just found a good stallion for my mare.
It's not particularly hard to get your hands on. There's a ton of pearl carriers and pearl horses up for brood and a few for sale for not too expensive. The percentages look a little scary and make it look quite rare but it's pretty easily attainable. -
I was wondering, does that list include altered as well? Because those horses are basically dead ends...
Not to encourage you to do any more math though xDProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
Prices are almost always negotiable. -
If theres 20884 horses with the pearl gene in the game (color tested) then where is 2550 and 3750 coming from? Thats only 6300.
There are 14657 tested heterozygous pearls. -
Thanks, everyone for all the info.!
One more question though.
How is it determined that a horse has the term pearl in its color testing names?
For example my stud (of the foal at the top of the page) carry the pearl gene but does not express it in the color testing names.
While one of his foals not only carry it but also express it in its color testing names.
What determines the term pearl being in the color testing names? -
Horses only carry the term in their color name (and qualify for membership in the Pearl Breeders Club) if the pearl gene actually influences the coat color of the horse. This only happens when it is homozygous (CprlCprl) or when it is mixed with cream (CprlCcr or CcrCprl). The first will be a "base color Pearl" horse and the second will be a "base color Cream Pearl" horse or, if black, I think they are "Smokey Black Pearl" or the appropriate variation. You will notice Cream Pearls are lighter than creams but darker than double creams. Pearl seems to give a slightly rosy tint to the coat, while double cream goes to the white/yellow end of the spectrum.Thanked by 1Travler

@Moonacres Stables the 2550 is horses that have 2 pearl genes (prl/prl) and 3750 are horses that are cream pearl (cr/prl). The 20884 are horses that have 1 pearl regardless of other genes (includes C/prl, which does not show; cr/prl and prl/prl).#28036
