Needing advice/opinions on GMT work.
-
So I finally have enough GMTs to get a copy of machiatto, but I am dithering about who gets it. My three choices will all have to have more GMT work to get them exactly where I want them and I cannot make up my mind. Its a case of knowing what I want but not who gets it. The ultimate goal is to have a red dun with at least two darkening genes ( or choc palomino)splash m and splash, blanket/snowcap appaloosa, and no kit. Out of who is left, I want to make a bay/brown dun leopard appaloosa, no kit, with GP instead of splash. All three of them are yearlings so I have time to work on them except for getting SplM. So if anyone would like to weigh in on what they would do, and why (I.e. that gene would not show on that horse, too much GMT to get it done, etc.) please do so!

Number three is my Candy Appleloosa - she would need a gender swap as well as color tinkering.

I personally think the machiatto would look good on the first one, but that's just me. Curious to see what other people say.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.Thanked by 1RipshinCreekFarm

What a cool conundrum :)
I would put GP recipe on the Nanotech. Then use the filly for the splash recipe. The bonfire might be patn1/patn1 so the cost could be more for the snowcap. The candy mare is less tokens to change to splash M, than the Bonfire colt. Ammit said when we paid $ for the gene that we didn't need one with splash already in order to add Macchiato. not sure if that's true in the lab.ID #21047Thanked by 1RipshinCreekFarm -
Well, I figured the easiest way to start would be to break down who needs what GMT work to get what you want.
For instance, here's a what you'd need (I think) to get a double sooty Red Dun with splash, appaloosa and no Kit genes:
Nanotech Primer
Needs splash
Needs W20 removed
Needs W2 removed
Needs both E genes removed
Bone Fire
Needs 2 darkening genes
Need appaloosa
Needs dun
Need both creme genes removed
Candy Appleloosa
Needs gender change
Needs splash
Need W20 removed
Needs E gene removed
Needs both creme genes removed
You could always just tally up the GMT cost for each option and figure out from there.
(Might be off on my genetics, but I THINK that's what's needed)Thanked by 1RipshinCreekFarm -
Personally I think SpM works best on darker coated horses. You could barely see it on the two bottom ones as they are. I would suggest having a look through peoples current herds to see how SpM interacts with other colours. I may have some examples myself...Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
Prices are almost always negotiable.Thanked by 1RipshinCreekFarm -
I'm inclined to say go for SpM/red on one of the cream foals. Partially because I think you should leave the pearl on your Nanotech as a nice little lagniappe for his foals.... I will work up the cost of making those two into the type of Machiato you're talking about (I will do both Red dun and choc Pali) and show you my results (and also the order in which I think you should make the changes so you can evaluate what you think about color and pattern along the way!)

Thanks y'all for weighing in! Sometimes it helps to see other peoples' perspectives. I had been leaning to knocking the cream off of my Bone Fire and making him SplM, and keeping my Nanotech for GP later on. Cheers laying it out kind of confirms it for me.

I do that when I'm debating between a few. It's amazing how different the priced can be with little base changes...

Can we gmt any foundation horses? I have been curious about it but I stay in my head. I have real life horses and just thinking about gmting one of them in life is hard for me.
