Should I boost and unalter?
-
So I bred this girl, my very first bred brindle, and I really want her to be intact but she failed breeding advice. She papered Red, though, so I was thinking maybe with a 5% boost she may make it? Just curious on everyone's thoughts and experiences as I've never done a breeding boost or unaltering before.
Thanks in advance!

She probably got spayed due to inconsistency. So if you buy 2 GMT's you can unalter her, GM her to consistent, and then rerun her through testing :)
-
I've done it quite a few times and once I change the consistency (specifically of a red 2G) they have, so far, all stayed intact after retesting
-
Oh nice, I may try that then. I didn't even think about her being inconsistent. I was thinking that had to do with showing, not breeding. Thank you! :)
-
Inconsistency does have to do more with showing than breeding, but inconsistent horses are a bit more likely to produce inconsistent foals. They do, many times, have consistent foals, and consistent horses may produce inconsistent foals.
The reason that it affects the results of the Breeding Ability test is because inconsistency affects the PT of the foal, lowering it by about 4-5 tenths of a point. If you GMT her consistent you will have to redo the Performance Evaluation, and the breeding ability test. You will definitely notice the jump in her PT score. Her inconsistency not only lowers her own PT, but if she produces many inconsistent foals, it would lower her Average Foal PT, making her a poorer brood mare than she would otherwise be.De gustibus non disputandum. There is still a chance that she will fail Mare advice after un altering and turning consistent because her dad is B papered she could be slightly worse then him and still get snipped but if you boost her she would stay intact :)
-
I think the mare may be at least as good as. The dad is a low b, I believe, so even if she is slightly worse normal breeding advice shoudn't be a problemProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Ok, so ideally I should both boost and make her consistent? I'll see if I can swing all that. Thanks so much for the advice! :)
-
Try just the inconsistency before you buy a boost token. ;)

I agree with Rose. Especially since you can only buy boosts for real money!
