You could live in any fantasy world, from books, movies, tv, games, etc, what world would you live in and what would you do there?
For example, I would love to be a Dragon Rider in Christopher Paolini's Alagaesia (from The Inheritance Cycle). I like the idea that the return of the Dragon Riders to that society will bring balance and justice back to a world that had fallen into such decay during the rule of Galbatorix. I would love to be a part of melding the new races into the Dragon Rider society and rediscovering everything in the libraries and treasure halls in the King's Palace.
Please include enough references that anyone reading your answer can find the source material (name of Author or tv series or movie, etc).
My three favorite answers will receive a Silver Pocket Watch fresh create. Contest will end at 4 pm game time today so I can get creates distributed well before the link expires..
Please include your player ID and what type of create you would like. 1 of you will get the share link, the other two will get a create made and put up in my buddy chat. -
Oh...love this question! There are so many potentials. This is why I read science fiction and fantasy. Alagaesia would be right up there, along with Harry Potter. Though, not Hunger Games. I could totally do without that world!
But, there's a young adult series from my youth that is always at the top of the list. The Secret of the Unicorn Queen series (written by a handful of authors including Josepha Sherman and Suzanne Weyn) is about a typical modern day teenager, Sheila, that falls through a wacky scientist's time machine and finds herself in another world. There's the typical evil emperor whose tyrannous reign has hold over everything.
But, opposition comes from a band of women warriors who protect a herd of unicorns from the emperor Dynasian. Each woman is chosen by one of the unicorns to ride them. Sheila learns to fight with a sword and rides along with the group while the wacky scientist keeps trying to find a way to get her home. Everyone in that world comes to believe that Sheila is a sorcerer because of her magical music producing tape player (yes...dates the books and me, perhaps), magical potions (soda) and other modern day gadgets.
I always loved imagining myself being chosen by a unicorn and being surrounded by strong, independent warrior women. It had the bonus of not just being a fantasy world, but one an ordinary kid managed to fall into. They certainly lack the literary prowess of many of the current fantasy series but the premise has stuck with me for decades.

What a great question! It's definitely tough having to choose one! But I think that despite all of the reading I've done, I'm going to have to go back to one of my first series: How To Train Your Dragon!
And no, I do not mean the movies.
These books totally enthralled me when I was younger and I value them very highly on my bookshelf. The books detail a viking society that is integrated with dragons in which each viking has their own hunting dragon and riding dragon. Wouldn't that be an exciting life to lead! My favorite part about it was the compassion that the main character, Hiccup, showed to the dragons. He understood that they were creatures just like him, and not just tools. He dedicated so much time and patience training Toothless (who is small, and green, and actually has no teeth...), and he chose a riding dragon that was weaker and smaller because he knew it would probably be slaughtered if no one picked it. He was also incredibly sweet to his best friend, Fishlegs, even giving him the dragon he had chosen for himself because Fishlegs was having an allergic reaction and couldn't pick his own.
The characters in the series had such personality and that's a large part of why the world seems to inviting. The teacher Gobber's constant yelling and insulting, the best friend Camicaze's total craziness, the dad Stoic's naivety, and the constant discord between Hiccup and his cousin Snotlout all guaranteed that there never was a boring day on Berk! I could literally go on, and as I'm typing this I'm remember more and more about the series. It's a very rich environment that I spent many years immersed in!
I always imagined it would be so much fun to be a part of their world, accompanying the iconic trio on their crazy adventures, fighting bad guys and escaping prisons! I remember lots of doodles I made of what my dragons would look like and what they would be called. The one thing I could probably live without is the weather! It was always described as cold and rainy and I remember distinctly that one book said something about it was always so wet, your clothes never really dried, they would just go from cold and damp to hot and damp when put in front of a fire. Brr!
Another thing that kept me so occupied was the descriptions of different dragons that Cressida Cowell integrated into the books. She put so much thought and effort into making them and it was incredibly fun for young me to collect the information. I would have brought them all to life if I could.
I'm also very salty about the movies. They are great on their own, but have literally 0% in common with the amazing books. The characters are completely rewritten and different, they added a love interest (he was like 12 in the books?), and they totally changed the society. The dragons were also changed drastically.

This is awesome! I love the Inheritance Cycle :)
I adore unicorns so I would love to live in Balinor, from Mary Stanton's Unicorns of Balinor series. The unicorns come in every colour of the rainbow with a matching gemstone at the base of their horn. The gemstone contains the unicorn's magic. If I lived in Balinor, I would just ride my purple unicorn everywhere and go on little adventures :)
It's been so long since I've read the books, but you've inspired me to go and find them so I can re-read them for the 27th time lol. I've also just found out that Mary Stanton has written another novel which is like a horse version of Watership Downs. And it's available on Kindle :D

Oh gosh I don't even have to think twice about this.
Fast forward to the 24th Century and I'd be enlisting in Starfleet in a heart beat. Yep, I'm a Trekkie.
For me, and a lot of other Star Trek fans out there, the reason I love this depiction of a future Earth society is not just about the space exploration and awesome sci-fi (although that is a very big part of it), but mainly because its depiction of a future Earth is a rare one. Majority of science fiction works depict the future as bleak, nitty-gritty worlds, with post-apocalyptic often dystopian societies, that serve to warn us of how destructive we are and that the human race is doomed. Star Trek doesn't do this. Star Trek gives us a positive future; a dream, a goal. It shows us the potential of the human race.
A society where everyone has equal opportunity, diversity is celebrated, war is abolished (on Earth at least), money does not drive society and technology is freely shared. Star Trek says, "hey, here's just how good we could really be" and it dares us to be like that. It's a show that tackles important issues, and always has been ahead of its time. It's philosophical, and is a science fiction that at its very core is about humanity.
Also, I want to be on a starship, exploring the galaxy and boldly going because I love space and think it's really neat. I'd totally be work in science, having a blast discovering new things on away missions!

Great responses, y'all! And all of the books are from series I haven't read, so I see some trips to the library in my future!

This is a very tough question. There are a number of fantasy worlds that I reread frequently. How shall I choose one. Hmm. Let's go with Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern.
Here is a world where the most serious danger and challenge comes from a non-sentient raider that falls from the sky at long intervals. Called Thread, it is a mycorhizal spore originating from a reddish colored planet that circles the sun of this world on a huge, elliptical orbit. It will consume all organic material that it contacts. Dragons that bond telepathically with chosen riders are the key to fighting this danger. They are able to chew a special "firestone" that helps them generate flame to burn the thread before it falls to earth.
The series began with the story of a time when no thread had fallen for so long that folks had come to believe that it would never fall again. The dragons had declined to a single "weyr" and there was no hope of combating it if, as one young Weyrleader believed, the Red Star dropped its fatal cargo when it once again approached.
Anne McCaffrey eventually developed the world through a series of books that covered the history of Pern from discovery and settlement of the planet by people fleeing Earth and the first threadfall, up to and including the final conquest of the Red Planet, removing its threat forever AND the problems this solution causes as the Pernese find ways to adapt to a new, thread-free world. These books did not appear in chronological order; They dip into various crises in Pern's history as McCaffrey worked out the details of hinted at events in previous books.
Since there is almost as much danger from wicked, selfish, greedy, or just plain stupid, stuck-in-the-mud people as there is from thread, the society is believable and the times frequently exciting, even in thread-free years.
McCaffrey's son joined her in the writing of several of the later books and continues to produce stories set in the Pern universe.
I think it would be great to ride a huge flaming dragon to save the world from vital danger and to have that dragon as a best friend for life.

Oh man this is a hard one - I read/watch/ADORE too much sci-fi/fantasy!
I'd probably be the weirdo who picks Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries (also known as the Sookie Stackhouse novels). This is the series that inspired the show True Blood, though the books were WAY better plot-wise - the show deviated significantly and by the mid to late seasons completely ignored the books (to the show's detriment, in my opinion).
I've always been that weird kid who liked vampires so a world where vampires not only exist but are KNOWN to exist (they 'came out of the coffin' lol) just seems so cool to me.
For anyone not familiar with the books/show, they center on Sookie Stackhouse, a mid-twenties Southern girl in Louisiana who works in a bar and has telepathy. She meets a vampire and discovers that she can't read vampire minds, which is a huge relief to her because she hates her telepathy. Each book centers on a different mystery (serial killer in town, etc.) and Sookie's life. She's a pretty cool character, though I always of course preferred her various love interests: vampires, shape shifters, werewolves, etc.
Total favorite would be Eric Northman, a thousand year old Viking vampire who manages to be badass, funny, and totally charming all at once.
I give Charlaine Harris total props for the way she writes her vampires though - she really nails the fact that these are creatures that AREN'T human and many haven't been so for hundreds of years, so human interactions confuse them a lot of the time. One of my favorite scenes from the first book is actually an argument between Sookie and her vampire that's caused entirely by their lack of understanding one another - she's not chasing other women off from hitting on him because she asked him out and therefore doesn't feel she as the right since he didn't ask her, and he's wondering why she's not being all territorial and so assumes she's not really that into him and will instead be into the much older and stronger vampire (who just so happens to be Eric). The whole argument is just hilarious to read because they just don't GET each other.
Harris doesn't shy away from vampires' more brutal and bloodthirsty natures either by trying to make them these misunderstood good guys, which is refreshing.

I would go to Tolkien's Middle Earth as an elf! Ideally I would live in Mirkwood, patrolling the dark woods as a ranger, hunter and archer. I do horse archery now and live 10 miles from Tolkien's 'Middle Earth' so all I really need is to be immortal and have elven beauty haha Wouldn't hurt if I got to wistfully admire Thranduil and Legolas from a distance too hehe :D

Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I love how unlike most fantasy worlds, magic and mystical creatures are not seen as ancient and mysterious but rather in a blasé attitude. Wizards are contracted to make light up signs for taverns, while large dragons have been unheard of for years (excepts in one book) small ones are keep as pets and treated a lot like show dogs, and being an assassin, rogue, or wizard isnt something deeply revered but an everyday job. Things like that are just something that's there and part of everyday life. I'd rather live in a world like that rather than all interesting magic being locked away except for a select number of individuals. I also want a bunch of pet show dragons.Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

Hmm this is a difficult decision for me as I love to read and watch Sci-Fi/Fantasy. I keep going back and forth between two book series, The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare and Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth.
I keep leaning further towards Carve the Mark only because of the Shotet interplanetary travel and witnessing the beauty of the Current. While the Shotet are portrayed early on to be a vicious and cruel race, they are a warrior people who also scavenge the planets of the galaxy in order to continue their travel. While they are ruled by a tyrant who wishes to conquer all of the peoples in the galaxy in the first book, they are also a people of honor, diligence and determination.
I now have to wait patiently for the next installment to be released!

I would love to live in Irene Radford's world about "glass" dragons. Not sure which era. There's The Stargods series or The Dragon Nimbus History series or The Dragon Nimbus
It's a lost "bush" planet where some colonists has crash landed and lost their technology and revert to tribal hunter gatherers until some outlaw brothers crash while running away from the law. The planet has magic, and "invisible" dragons. The dragons are real they just hold so much magic that they are very hard to see. There are 2 types of magic, dragon magic can only be practiced by men who have the ability and relies drawing magic off of the dragons to use and non-dragon magic which draws from the land and is available to both male and female if they have the innate ability.
The books are full of magic, history and politics. And of course there are dragons. I would absolutely be a witch living on my own, joining in the festivals.
Another series I would love to live in is Jane Linskold's Firekeeper Saga. It starts out with Through Wolf's Eyes and an expedition past the Iron Mountains where the "mythical" royal beasts were said to live. The expedition is looking for the last heir to the king. They find a girl and a wolf and bring them back. There series follows the girl, Firekeeper and her journey to learn how to be "human" while keeping to being a wolf.
The books are first set in a country that has lost its magic. Magic users are reviled and magic is feared. With the king getting old and no heir in sight the country verges on war with it's neighbors.
A lot of politics, some magic and the internal struggle of a girl who fits in no world. I would be a royal wolf and stay with my pack far away from human machinations.
There are so many more I could go over.Thanked by 1Cheers -
This is so much fun! I know this is cliche but it would have to be Harry Potter by JK Rowling. I love the whimsy of the magic and the adventure to be had. I would love to have a job like Newt Scamander; finding magical animals, documenting them, and the releasing them back into the wild. Of course I would specialize in unicorns because they are the best of the creatures! I love their innocence and innate goodness. And after Voldemort feeding off of them they are probably considered endangered and the species needs to be saved. Other worlds I would like to live in would have to be from Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor or Cinder by Marissa Meyer.

Aw, man! I love just about anything and everything that's sci-fi and fantasy related! One of my favourites, though, would have to be the tv series "Sanctuary" created by Damian Kindler.
If I could be a part of that world, I would spend my time, just as Helen Magnus did, saving and granting sanctuary to people and creatures different from humans. It would be so rewarding to learn about these abnormals--just like how people study animals on earth today! But I also love bio/genetics and that kind of thing. :) I also have a great interest in veterinarian sciences, so that would translate well into learning how to care for unusual creatures--their diets, their habitats, their behavior, their biology.
I think it would be fascinating.

It's a total, deep dark secret that I like Doctor Who....so don't tell! Regardless of which Doctor you prefer, the message of hope is really what I enjoy most. No one is perfect, and this 'hero' is proof of that. The current show runner has his fans, and his detractors, but his quote about the Doctor really resonates, for me:
“It's hard to talk about the importance of an imaginary hero. But heroes ARE important: Heroes tell us something about ourselves.
History tells us who we used to be, documentaries tell us who we are now; but heroes tell us who we WANT to be.
And a lot of our heroes depress me.
But when they made this particular hero, they didn't give him a gun--they gave him a screwdriver to fix things. They didn't give him a tank or a warship or an x-wing fighter--they gave him a box from which you can call for help. And they didn't give him a superpower or pointy ears or a heat-ray--they gave him an extra HEART. They gave him two hearts! And that's an extraordinary thing.
There will never come a time when we don't need a hero like the Doctor.”
That, and a dash of heroic flair make it a TON of fun!
I will just sound off about my favorite show, and not enter for the create, thanks!Thanked by 1Cheers -
This is a fun thread to read. I too am a big Fantacy fan, though I haven't read some of the books posted above. Big thumbs up to SandycreekFarm mentioning Dragon Riders of Pern, an awesome series!
At the moment I am waiting for one of the series I follow to come out in paperback, as it's newest just came out in hardback. The series is called "Green Rider", by Kristen Britain.
https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjX0qO1rsDUAhUE64MKHbaWAokQPAgD#hl=en&q=Green+Rider+series
I am also reading another series while waiting for the above book: it's by Katherine Briggs, and is the "Mercey Thompson" series, with werewolves, vampires and all kinds of fae, and other fun things.
https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjX0qO1rsDUAhUE64MKHbaWAokQPAgD#hl=en&q=mercy+thompson+books
Just love these.
No need to add me to the contest, just wanted to mention the books. :) -
I can't wait to read some of these because many of the mentioned series I haven't heard of before.
Initially, I was going to say Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey but SandycreekFarm has already mentioned this wonderfully complex world. I would also enjoy living in Middle Earth by Tolkien - LJDobbins, what a great pick!
Instead of those previously mentioned, I would want to live in the world of The Firebringer Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce. Written for young adults, I still go back to this series for a light read and find little details I didn't notice before.
Though the series itself follows the life of Jan, a Unicorn of the Ring, as he embarks on adventures of great personal growth and moments of peril to fulfill a prophesy he doesn't feel worthy enough to accomplish, Meredith Ann Pierce offers so much more depth. A wealth of characters and seemingly limitless landscapes available for adventure are described in beautiful detail without bogging down the reader. The trilogy is full of unicorns, gryphons, pans, wyverns, dragons, and more.
If I was to live in this world, I would love to be a unicorn. Whether I was a Unicorn of the Ring or a renegade of the plains, I could not decide. Though I'm sure I would be getting into all sorts of mischief and excitement. Unicorns in this series have beautiful coats of every color imaginable and their silky manes and tasseled tails would be too tempting to pass up. How could I not want to race gryphons or dance with pans or meet a dragon queen?!Thanked by 1Cheers -
I would love to live in The Horse Catcher series. It is "historical fiction", basically myth about how native Americans first got horses. I can't remember the author right now, but I'll add more info later. (I'm on break right now)
I'd light a 3yr old light stallion, either pony or horse height.#28036Thanked by 1Cheers -
I have to agree with several already mentioned but to be different I'm going to have to go with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies! I love the characters and the adventures and of course saving the Galaxy :). Plus getting to travel with Quill would be a huge bonus lol! I also would get to see Groot, of course I would want to be in the baby Groot timeframe as he is adorable and hilarious!

I love the Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare and would love to live in their world. It's full of nephilim which are the shadowhunters and all the "downworlders" like wearwolve, vampires, seelies, and much more. I love how the Shadowhunters fight to keep peace between the mundane world and the downworlders. The love story between Clary and Jace is amazing also. I love the books so far! And the tv show isn't too bad either :)Thanked by 1Cheers

There are a lot of great sounding series ... I am going to have to scour my library. I was going to go with McCaffrey's Perm, but Sandy Creek beat me to it and did a wonderful job describing it!
So I am going to with Piers Anthony's Xanth. Xanth is magical area opposite of Florida which is in Mundania (Earth). Every human has a magic talent which never repeats itself. There are a lot of different mythic creatures like centaurs, merpeople, goblins, dragons, etc., but my favorites are the night mares. I wouldnt mind being a magic weilding flying centaur because magic wielding flying centaur sounds cool. If you read them beware - it is heavy on the puns. Locations are plays on real locations such as Lake Ogre-Chobee (Okechobee). There is an adult conspiracy that keeps children from learning "adult" things. Titles include Crewel Lye: A Caustic Yarn and Knot Gneiss. If you don't mind groan worthy puns give it a try.

Hmm, I think I would have to "go into the land of the unicorns " I was 10 last time I read it, but it was awesome! This pristine world with lots of magical creatures including intelligent unicorns! There are a few we'll known book series worlds I would like to be a part of such as Harry Potter(JK Rowling), Percy Jackson(Rick Riordan), and Cinder(Marrissa Meyer). But there is also a book series I love that is less known, Rebel Mechanics(Shanna Swendson). I would love to be a Magizoologist in the world of Harry Potter. I would love to study dragons and griffons and hippogriffs. I love large flying animals. In Percy Jackson, I would love to go to camp halfblood. I would love to be a daughter of Athena, goddess of wisdom, and play capture the flag. In Cinder, I just love the idea of the world. Not the plague, but most other things. The Rebel Mechanics is a series set in the 1800's, but there is Magic and the upper class are all magisters. Mainly, I would love to be in a world with monsters, Magic, and witches(good ones of course).
