Am I missing something here?
-
Just wondering why this filly thinks she's bay rather than the brown I think she should be? Wondering what I am missing - I suspect it must be something! :)

Ok, she AtAt which makes her "Homozygous Brown" carrier. To be brown you have to be aAt, StySty, and she is SS. The Homozygous Brown HH can be any color, but they will always be AtAt.Thanked by 1Dinascar

I have some browns with just one sooty gene - so I am assuming just one is enough - that makes sense!
-
Yep - I have Chestnuts who carry AtAt - just forgot the sooty! LOL!
-
They may have DP to cover not haveing the second Sty. But a brown must have E? aAt and two darkening genes, either Sty, Dp or Sty+.
-
So if I get this right then is this one darkened by the EE?

Brunhilda -
Or could she have DP?

She has the brown gene, but she is not dark enough to look brown. The name is based on the color not the gene just like real life.

OK thanks Ammit. So I suspect I will need to breed her with some sooty in order to have her offspring called brown. Presumably the second one just looks brown enough to be called brown.
