How many studs do you have...
  • I have over 100 studs ranging from foundation to gen 9. I want to go to maybe 3 studs per generation. I have studs that I am not sure if I will ever use them. Not sure what to do at this time. I have been thinking about altering my upper gen horses.
How does one stay focused on this game?
  • 47 studs most are gen two some foundries and a handful of upper gens
  • I try to keep it down to two stallion per herd but I have a very bad addiction of collecting big beautiful boys and constantly have more than I need. I currently have 86 boys some are yearlings that I have not gone through yet and I still have 4 or 5 herds left to breed.

  • I had a nice, manageable number of 10 G1s in my stallion barn before the anniversary celebration.

Now, I'm up to 25. Somehow, I need to figure out how to cut the number down.
  • I have 59 studs right now, some are under age to replace current studs, some are left intact as testing horses (low B boy that C papered founds have to paper AGA to, mid B boy that 2g breeders should be superior to, a superior to sire 4g that I have gotten a few really nice 3g boys to paper aga to and now 4g have to paper superior to him) The whole a-b/blue-red 2g dynamic is also confusing things and I now have several of each for my herds now so I have options. I also have several studs that I don't use any more because I have boys of similar quality that are close to my color goal but since they are great boys, and some of them have placed high in the producing sire leaderboard I would feel bad about gelding them, so they just hang around on the public breeding boards whenever I remember to put them up. I personally keep my high gen boy because he is my best, and I am slowly breeding up to his level. I use him to breed my highest gen mares to when I don;t have other boys good enough quality for them yet. Also ten of my boys are colts from this year that I am still trying to decide what to do with. I also had about 6 high B 2g GP boys because none of them are quite what I'm looking for. Once I get an A papered 2g GP boy all those ones will probably go.
  • 37 Total

    1G (Perfect) - 4
    1G (Expro) - 3
    2G - 6
    2G (From Expro) - 5
    3G - 5
    4G - 3
    5G - 4
    Uneven (show stud) - 1

I have two different lines going on the lower generations which complicates things so I'm trying to reign that in, but atm I'm too busy with trying (and failing) to save IV's and also hoarding all the expro horses for my boosted line. I usually have a main stud, and then a side stud who I rotate so my lines don't look as awful as this boy.

I'm trying to limit it to no more than 1 colt per stud kept as long as they compare superior and I'm thinking about getting rid of a few. I'll probably not breed my EP anymore and just draw straws and flush eggs from my EP mares and do something with them later.

I'm not completely sure what I'm doing with my herd. I'm thinking my first goal is to work towards Gold/Star and then from there colour. All I know is I'm addicted to creating and breeding horses and need to stop, lol.

  • To many studs! 169 I don't use most of them I'm thinking of altering the ones I don't use but what if some day I need that stud and he's altered decisions decisions lol :-))
  • I have 127 but they are pretty so I'm ok with that :)
  • 20, half of which are too young to breed. 8 foundation, 3 uneven specifically for my show line. The other 9 are lined and I don't have mares for them so for now they will do duty as show pony sires and be up for public breeding to earn their keep!
  • 136 stallions, 369 mares ( but that also includes my big batch of foals from this season) lol
    Champion Appaloosas
  • I only have 8, but 1 is a yearling that I may not keep. I have 5 foundation, mostly ExPro, Perf Found or RS. And 3 second gen.
    I have 30 mares/fillies.

  • I had way too many for a while, but I recently sold quite a few so I have two foundations and about 5 for 2g and 3g. I’m trying to get to where I have only one per paper level per gen.

  • I have 35, 11 of whom are foals and will likely be culled down to 4 or 5. I also have a total of 1917 horses, though, so percentage wise it's pretty low. (aka Math)

  • I have wat to many I need to go through all of them
  • More than I should, I haven't gone and culled the last two years or so.

You only need 1 stud per 50 mares.

I have 31 right now. Eeek, need to get that down to 20 or so.

Best way to cull studs is not to look at them. Run them through the strict testing, then compare them to your benchmark stud for that generation. Cull EVERYTHING, that doesn't meet the standard. Then look at the pretty colors. That way you don't end up keeping pretty, but poor quality studs, just because they are pretty.
