Guide to the New Pastures
-
Pastures are a huge and exciting change in the dynamic of the game. Just like in real life if you put a mare and a stallion in a pasture and leave them to it you will come back to babies. Pastures are an automatic way to not only breed your horses but make automatic income from it.
About pastures in general
Every member in the game has a primary pasture. The size of this pasture changes based on your upgrade level. They start with room for 1 stallion and 10 mares, and increase until there is room for 3 stallions and 100 mares at level 5.
Level 1: 1 stallion 20 mares
Level 2: 1 stallion 30 mares
Level 3: 2 stallions 45 mares
Level 4: 2 stallions 60 mares
Level 5: 3 stallions 100 mares
In addition to your primary pasture you will be able to purchase additional pastures (1/30, 2/60 and 3/100 sizes) just like barns
Breeding with pastures
You can add or remove horses as much as you want from your pasture but the pasture will only breed one time per season. At some point approximately two weeks into breeding season your horses will autocratically produce foals. Stallion and mare combinations will be assigned at random. Once the pasture produces foals it will not produce again until next season. You WILL BE CHARGED 500 hbs for every foal produced to cover vet fees. The produced foals will stay in the pasture until you remove them or until the next crop of foals is born.
Showing/Outside Breeding
Horses in the pasture can not be shown or bred to by any means other then the pasture.
Email notification
Pastures will generate emails (a setting that you will be able to turn off). The email will let you know when your foals are born and a second email will remind you to clean out your new foals before they are automatically removed from the game.
Profit
It costs 500 hbs to produce every foal on the pasture, if you run out of money it will stop producing foals. You can take those foals out of the pasture right away and sell them for 1000 or 2500 by culling them. If you simply wait the foals will be removed from the game and pay you 1000 hbs each automatically with no effort on your part. A 100 mare pasture will produce 50,000 hbs a season automatically or over 125,000 a season with hand culling.

I have a few questions...
1. Does a horse need to be present in the barn at the start of breeding season and for the entire 2 weeks to produce a foal?
2. Do you need to leave room in the pasture for the foals? -
What ever horses are in that pasture when the script runs are the ones that make the babies. It doesn't care if you take the horse in and out 30,000 times. As long as it is there when foaling time comes.
No foals do not take up slots in the pasture.

Before I get carried away, on my pasture page, it says that stallions ages 2-16 and mares 3-16 can be added to my pasture. I am guessing this is a typo?Purple Sage Estates - 129
-
No it is not. You are supposed to add the horses in the year before.

Oooooh. So adding them this season will only set them to breed next season?Purple Sage Estates - 129

wow, this is awesome!

So, if I have Sky (Stallion) and my three brood mares in the pasture, one of them will have a foal, even if all my stalls are full?
signature removed for being to big. -

If you merge accounts, does the pastures go with the account like the barns do?
-
Yes

Totally awesome! Thank you :)
-
For how long do foals not take up slots in the pasture?
Or do they take up stalls in the barn at the time they are born? -
They never take up slots in the pasture. If you don't take them out they are removed from the game.

Once the foals have been produced, will the mares and stallions automatically go back to their stalls?Purple Sage Estates - 129
-
Not from what I understand, the foals (and mares/stallions) stay there, and foals still there automatically get sold just before the next breeding season
-
A reminder pastures ARE counting how many days a mare is in the pasture for. To get the full bonus you need to put your mare in and leave her there.

Does this extend into the next breeding season? Meaning, the more seasons you leave her, the better the foals are?
-
Do we know when foals will be produced? I worry as it said about two weeks in and it is now the 19th and I do not have any foals.
Thanks! -
Because of all the work involved, Ammit has said that the pasture breeding will take place later than usual this time around. She's very busy with a lot of essential work for her other job right now, but she's giving H&J games as much time as she can.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I have found that I can breed mares in my primary stable with live cover but if I try and use a straw on a mare, it tells me I don't have enough stalls. I am using 66 out of 100.
-
SandyCreek Farms got it spot on.
Normally there will be an email letting you know when foals are born though probably not this year since my time is so restricted right now.

Ok. I wasn't sure if it was automated or not which was why I asked :)
-
How does one remove foals from pastures? Perhaps I am blind but I can't figure it out.
-
You can't remove them just yet. I just found the answer myself. :)
-
Will pastures ever be available via IV's? I just found I had 16 of them! lolPurple Sage Estates - 129

You asking asking me to make a promise forever about it. I can't do that. I don't have any plans to right now but I can't predict what forever will bring.

I apologize. I know you have tons on your plate already. I just wasn't sure if it had already been discussed somewhere or not. Since I don't log onto the forums or FB on a daily basis, I always feel like I am missing stuff. lolPurple Sage Estates - 129
