Please help me price this colt
  • I bred this nice colt but I don't really want to breed for champagne so I am selling him. He's an even 2G B papered colt, homozygous for tobiano, and heterozygous for champagne and appaloosa. I have no idea how much he's worth so if anyone could help me figure out a price for him that would be very much appreciated. Or is his color desirable enough that I would be better off doing a forum auction for him instead of a direct sale? Thank you!

  • He's certainly flashy! And a horses value does depend on what people are prepared to pay but I probably wouldn't price him much higher than 4100 hbs which is the 2500 you'd get for him in auction plus the money you spent testing him :) Hope that helped
  • I agree with Kalilm. Always start a base hoses price at 2500, and then add the price of all the testing. If you want, you can round it to the nearest 500. If someone asks you why the horse is priced so high, you can always say with truth that it's because of all the testing.

  • Ooooh, he's cute <3

  • I don't consider testing when pricing a horse for sale. Just like GMTs you will seldem get back, on a sale, what you put into the horse!

  • I'm the same as you Confluence. If the horse is 5 or 6 years old and making good points, I might price it at $3000 and try for a sale. Otherwise I throw them into the auction. Sometimes, someone takes a shine to them and you get a couple hundred extra in there. Testing is basically a write off. Just like real life expenses. Test wisely.
