The best way to play the game is however you want to play the game :)

It does take a while to build up a profitable show herd and it does need management. Most of the horses probably won't start bringing in good money until they're in about the 10-15 year mark. Depending on the age you buy/create the horse that could be waiting anywhere from 6 months to over a year in rl time.

Picking up experienced horses is a good move to do, but make sure you're looking out for a few factors. Are they gelded/spayed, are they still placing OK, and how many points do they hold? You want to look at spayed and gelded horses who are consistantly placing in the middle to the top each time they show to really max out your points. So a horse placing 8th out of 15 horses is one to keep! You want to fulfill at least three of those points to seek out good show horses. Usually if I spot a cheap horse that is showing OK, has some points but is intact I might steal it and geld/spay it to give it a boost. This only pays off if they're young enough to get the boost :)

Oh before I finish off, when you get the ball rolling it doesn't really take terribly long to increase your daily bonus. Just before Christmas I was at about 8k per day, I'm at the moment 20k per day (please roll-over don't steal my oldies!!) So in about 5 months I've increased by 12k which isn't bad. There are people in HJ1 who are making stupid money per a day, but they've been consistantly playing for years to get to that point.

May will be one year for me. Albeit, I had played another KD game for years before, and didn't have to learn all the ropes, I am now at 75k per night. The total seemed to take forever to crawl up there, but I just kept buying show horses until I was breeding enough higher PT'd horses to use instead of buying. I will still snatch up any semi decent show horse I see for sale, but I don't have to!

It seemed like once I hit 30k per night it just went nuts and kept growing and growing!
