pricing of foals?
  • Just curious but why are sooty plus foals priced at 10k? I understand why KP and Satin foals are worth that. But not sure why sooty plus are?
  • Sooty + costs 20 tokens per gene (which actually makes it more expensive than KP) to add to a foundation in the GMT lab, so my understanding is because it's so expensive to add manually, foals/horses are sold with higher price tags to discourage the lines becoming irresponsibly and overbred in an attempt for players to make 'quick' money. Unfortunately Ice 1 and now Satin (in some instances) are examples of such lines.

  • aw ok. I haven't gmtd any ezcept my nexus. so wasn't sure. I have some foals that are sooty plus but I sold some for 2500. I may rethink that though. I didn't know. Thanks.

  • I didn't know all that. I might be taking a second look at my sooties.

  • Personally, I don't think any foal, unless it is a ex perf RS, is worth 10k. ESPECIALLY if it is priced that high based on its color!

If you can't figure out why a horse is priced high, you can vote down the price. That's part of how we are able to keep the game economy affordable for everyone! Voting is anonymous, though Ammit keeps an eye and on it to be sure people aren't voting prices down as a popularity contest.

  • Doesn't making foals more expensive because of rare color create the whole overpricing for quick cask thing? If goals of a fancy color went fir same price as normal horses then there would be no incentive for players to invest in it and churn out inferior offspring for a quick buck because the going rate would be same as selling a chestnut or any other horse.

  • On the other hand, doesn't it make sense for a rare coloured foal (particularly with rare genes that cost lots of GMTs or real money) would cost more than a very common coloured foal? Particularly assuming they're of equal quality (like, a well bred good quality rare coloured foal should be worth more than 2500 probably).

  • Elemental, you are thinking along the right lines in my opinion.

  • I do think that horses with rare genes/high cost gmted genes should be for sale for more. However, putting a horse up for 10k is just....well, I think it's far too much. Then again, if it was say a very well bred high gen (A or star papered) then maybe.

  • I disagree some horses are worth 10k and more. I spend triple that on eggs and that doesnt even guarantee an intact foal lol. It honestly depends on the horse and what people are going to spend. Just because a horse is priced high doesnt mean it will sell just like just because a horse is priced low doesnt mean it will sell. However if someone wants a horse bad enough and they have the money, usually, theyll pay it.

  • @ObsidianKitsune, exactly, an expensive foal can be either overpriced or accurately priced given its quality and the desirability of its genes for your breeding purposes. What you might find expensive for a lower generation foal (say 3rd generation), I might find perfectly priced because the quality and color are what I'm interested in breeding.

That being said, I completely agree with Confluence Farms about voting down a horses price if any horse (or foal) appears to be too steeply priced on public market - even if it has all the bells and whistles.

I think private sales typically occur between more experienced players who have an idea of the value of the horse they are purchasing. I'm willing to overpay to for access to some bloodlines that would be otherwise in house only to show that I care about not only the genes but the quality too.
