Studs AFPT is less then his PT
-
My studs AFPT is less then his PT does that mean he is a bad stud? He is a freaky Friday RS
Freaky Dreamer G1 -
No. You don't compare AFPT to the parents PT. You compare the foals AFPT to the parents AFPT.Thanked by 1kintara

Oh really? Hum I didn't know that so you don't know if your stallion is a good breeder until his foals have 3 babies? That's a longtime to find out and if your comparing the fathers AFPT to the foals AFPT then obviously the foals would be better because it's 2g. So it's not bad that the foals PT is lower then their fathers PT?
-
PT score has nothing to do with breeding and is no indication of whether the horse is a good breeder or not. A "good breeder" is relative and depends on the person. I'm okay with my horses AFPT being slightly lower, especially in a rank special. All rank specials are at minimum perfect foundations and have 100% breeding ability.Thanked by 1Coeur

That's not right. A good breeder will pitch out high pt scores. If good breeders were relative to the person there woundnt be herd helpers and boosts to improve such a thing. You don't have to compare AFPT to AFPT but it might be a good practice since if the parent is a poor breeder, the foal most likely is too.
Here's a thread discussing it. http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/14417/pt-scores-whats-the-standard#Item_15
The horse's own pt score has nothing to do with its breeding ability therefore it has no basis to be compared to its AFPT.
Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

I don't understand still if he is a good breeder or not all this stuff is to confusing for me
-
Some people have different goals in mind, timbe, so yes, a "good breeder" could be different for people.
Starfire, your stallion is a rank special. He has 100% breeding ability. He is a perfect foundation, so yes he is a good breeder. You're also breeding him to mostly regular creates, which may or may not have the same breeding ability. There are so many factors that go into whether a horse is a good breeder or not.
Were your mares in pasture? And if so, for how long? -
AFPT has NOTHING to do with a horse's own PT. You can compare a horse's AFPT to their parents' (to see if there's an improvement), or for a foundation you could compare it to the AFPT of other foundations to see if it's better or worse.
Don't ever look at a breeder's PT to determine if it'll be a good breeder - their PT says nothing about their breeding ability (there's some correlation as you get to higher gens but even then I wouldn't look to PT to judge whether or not a horse that has passed all testing is good or not).
AFPT tells you if your horse tends to throw good show horses or not. A breeder with a higher AFPT will generally be one that has a higher breeding ability because it's throwing foals with better showing ability.
But as has been said, your stud's an RS so he's a perfect foundation with 100% breeding ability, he's guaranteed to be good.
