  • Hello :)!

I've been here a little while now and I'm enjoying it so I thought I would pop in and finally say hello! I'm a freelance illustrator and spend a good deal at home so this is a nice little time muncher between commissions. I'm wondering if anyone has any good tips for newbies?

Nice to meet you all :D!

  • Hello little one
Life is Special live it to your fullest
  • Nice to meet you, Bourbon. Be careful what you wish for. This game has been known to create serious addiction issues and it becomes more than a "little" time muncher. :D

If you scan through the posts in the Help Me Out section as well as the New Member Introductions, you will find lots of posts where new members have asked about different aspects of the game. Then come ask any specific questions you have. The game is so complex that it's hard to answer broad general questions, though I did manage a few general tips in this thread, just now.

  • Welcome! I work from home too, currently playing on my self-appointed "lunch hour". Sandy's warning is valid :)
  • Haha I'm sure it won't end up too serious for me! I've been jumping from sim game to sim game and pretty much the only one that got me too serious was Furry-Paws. It's fun none the less!

I've been reading through the helpers forum for the last few days and what is striking me is a lack of explanation of how each gene effects the overall horse. I went through the genetic's guide and couldn't find much of break down on certain gene's. For example, I was looking at Dun (sucker for dun's!) and it took me a little while to work out that DD was the gene I was looking for to get it expressed. I can't explain it too well but basically I'm looking for sort of horse version of this?

Also hello fellow home worker! I was on lunch earlier too :D I'm currently on my down hours now. If you don't mind me asking what's your occupation?

  • I agree, Bourbon, that it would be awesome if more of the genes had a quick explanation of what the expression of the alleles looks like and what is dominant! but I've found that if I'm looking for something specific (like various Dun options) I've found the community is amazing at providing a wide variety of examples from their own barns if you put up the question. I had a question about the sooty genes last week and within hours I had a comprehensive explanation including illustrations and the ability to look at the horses they posted and at their full genetics, so I could see how different base colors interact with the different sooty alleles. And I also agree that time slips away quickly on here if you don't watch it....I'm supposed to be doing CPD right now....
  • The search engine is also really powerful and helpful for finding examples of different genes.

I do medical transcription from home and I also have a business making chainmaille and wire jewelry. I'm busting my butt trying to get my Handmade at Amazon store stocked before launch, and stock made before my annual huge craft show... so it's time to head back to work for me right now. Like Cheers said, please speak up if you have questions, the community here is super helpful.
