Starting over?
-
I kind of want to start over and focus more on genetics that I like.. but I'm kind of unsure? I've got around 300 horses at any given time, but I'm still fairly new so it wouldn't take me long to get back to my current numbers. Has anyone started over and it went well? Is it best to do all at once or phase out over time?
-
I have not started over, but I am slowly changing, or narrowing my direction. I had a whole collection of Fuel To The Fire rank specials, that I tossed in the auction today. I am moving away from the white genes, or at least drastically reducing them in my lines. I am also focusing at least 1 line on Snowflake Apps.

I would keep your highest quality stock and get stalliins/ mares to breed the to with the genetics would want. What genetics are you looking for? May I ask?
-
I did, twice! I was originally in it for palomino's, chucked them for champagnes and now I'm all for dark and beautiful. I threw out my old stock in the auctions, gelded and spayed anything doing well in shows and chucked them in a side barn and just took the money I got from auction to get some new creates.
I did it very early on in joining the game so there wasn't as many horses to narrow down but it's going strong now I think? It feels like Biscuit Valley is pumping out semi-decent horses on the regular.#4519 -
I created 2yr old great show horses and searched the foundation rescue for some perfect foundation quality mares. Got lucky with 2 experf foundation studs and snagged RS when I could. All after auctioning everything.
-
I'm moving more toward chocolate palomino and appaloosas. Just not sure if I want to keep breeding only riding horses or open up my lines more.
-
I've done both, phased out lines and a several real life years ago Ammit encouraged a massive purge on HJ1 and I got rid of everything. I have recently went through and tightened up my snipping requirements and reduced my intact horses. I think my barn stats are fairly good considering.
total horses 1400
Altered 1308- 86.2%
Stallions 18 - 1.2%
mares 174 - 12.4%
holding a total of 421,714pts (16,222 added just today) and a 45,183hbs show bonus/day -
I personally think it'd be wise to keep any of your horses that are showing well or have a bunch of points. Whether you want to keep or sell/auction the breeders will depend on whether or not you think you'd ever breed to them again. If you think you'd continue breeding them, I'd keep them and just buy new horses for your new lines. If you won't use them, sell or auction them off and use the money to buy new breeders!

I have recently changed my approached, I started by trying to make the best of the best, but now have moved to more even lines. I have a not be able to choose only one color because their are so many great colors and I love to see the mix of genes. If I were you I would keep a good group of show ponies and good studs to help bring in money and have a good base to start with.

I have started over numerous times over the years. The way that works best for me is to go by generations. Start with the foundation horses and stick to the foundations until I have what I want from their offspring occuring regularly. That means color and quality. Then I give most of my attention to the 2nd generations. I keep breeding the foundations, but by then I know pretty darned well what I want, and what I will accept, so culling is pretty quick and easy.
I started here, on HJ2 a year ago in March. Now I'm paying a lot of attention to my 3g's and I have a 'side' 4/5g line going as well. I'm adding a lot of white to my livers but still being pretty tough about culling.Thanked by 1Coeur -
I think I would do it slowly. The infrastructure is the hard thing. Just slowly buy some of the new you want, and breed them, then sell some old, and just gradually change out. That's what I did at leastBreeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

Are you getting rid of dark and beautiful? Or looking for some? I would be possibly interested in some dark and beautiful if you are selling, or if you are getting into dark and beautiful I could offer you some. I have been having fun with spotting dp creates.
