Yellow Foundation?
  • I just created this mare and she papered Yellow. Is this common?

  • Wait, isn't the yellow worse than red ?
  • Yes Yellow is worse than Red but MOST Foundations are Yellow (There is nothing wrong with Yellow Foundations). Breed her to a C papered Stallion and aim for their babies to be Red or B :)

  • With the new system. It us very important to breed quality to quality and that is
    C to yellow
    B to red
    A to blue
    Star to gold.
  • So, I'm still learning about breeding. I am actually going to go through all my horses and put some for auction to kind of "restart". I got hooked into buying/creating all kinds of horses. Now that is out of my system I want to focus on quality.

@best friend - thank you for that little chart! So, you don't want to breed a horse "outside" of its level? Like, a yellow to an A for example? Or red to c? The only way to breed quality foals is to match the level?
  • Pretty much. If you want nice show ponies I guess you could breed foundies to Apapeted studs as long as the owners sys it is alright. I am even having to breed down on someof my mares who papered yellow.
  • RedDee, so much of the testing relies on if the foal is better than their parents. So if you have one parent that is shiney, super wonderful breeding horse, and one that is 'meh' breeding horse, it will be easy for the kid to be better than the 'meh' parent, but REALLY tough for it to be better than the shiney super wonderful parent. That's when they get snipped. It can happen, that they stay intact, but it's hard to keep that run of luck going for very long. Those snipped foals may have a better showing score, though, so they may do well in the ring, they just won't be any good at making kids that are better than themselves. Does that make ANY sense whatsoever?

  • Oh, and you never really get past the buying/creating thing! It just gets a bit more focused! ;)

  • That does make sense!

When you're breeding to your own horses how do you choose what stallion to what mare? Like, of they're all similar and on the same levels?

How do you know if a horse is a good breeder or N
not (after they pass all necessary tests). I bred one stallion a few times and he was the only stallion to have foals test intact. He is not TNP but some of my other stallions are. Do you think he'll end up being a good breeder? Do you determine this after a few seasons?

Also, is it bad to breed a TNP with a TNP?

    Sorry for the babble :(
  • TNP with TNP would be fine since they have the same breed ability. They're just not the best at showing.

This post but ammit gives a good example of what to expect with foundation crosses.

  • TNPs and Perfect Foundations (PFs) have the same breeding 'score'. PFs are 100% for breeding AND showing (as high as any standard foundation horse can get). TNPs are breeding 'specialists', their breeding score is 100%, but their showing score could be anything. Be aware that the 100% part is for a standard foundation horse. You CAN (and it happens all the time) create a random, standard foundation horse that is a Perfect Foundation, but you won't KNOW it's a PF because we can't test for that super secret, mystery breeding score (that means that any horse with a Performance Test score - PT- of 9.9 is halfway to being a PF!) Every now and then I find one of my creates, that I sent to auction, in the Foundation rescue. I frequently end up buying them back, because if they are in the rescue it means they are a PF.

This is also part of why everyone loves the rank special (RS) horses that Ammit gives us as special gifts at certain times of the year. They are guaranteed to be, at LEAST, perfect foundations, with no guessing about their breeding 'score'. Some are even EXCEPTIONALLY perfect (105% breeding ability AND showing ability) and/or they are Exceptional Producers (105% on just the breeding part)
