Major Updates to Layout/Testing: Please read before posting
  • Those of you who play HJ1 will know what's up but these changes may come as a big shock to HJ2 players. Welcome to our new layout. Please note the following changes

    Screen Size
We now have two layout versions. Widescreen mode has a permanently open navigation window. You can find key info like your hbs, and current alerts on the right hand side. Narrow mode is for mobile devices. The menu pops out and can be hidden away for convenience. The site will also be bigger and easier to click on now.

    Testing
HUGE changes to testing. Please note testing is now found on each horses page in the control panel AND at the bottom of every barn page. You can test is bulk using the barn page. Just select the desired horses using the check box and click to test.

Testing has been simplified as well with less tests, that are cheaper, and with more options for free members. I will more info below.

    Stable Managment
All your stable management links are now on your Stable Home page instead of in the navigation menu.

Note: There are few things not working just yet like tack. Should be working shortly but I wanted to get the site back open for you.
  • Testing Info
Genetic testing works the same as before but can now be done in bulk on the barn page, or done individually on each horse's page.

The new "Breeding Advice" test is replacing gelding advice/mare advice, the showing aptitude test and parts of inconsistency testing.

    1. The test will compare a horse to BOTH it's sire and dam now to lessen confusion from testing. This will make uneven ability crosses a bit less likely to pass advice than before.
    2. The test is a bit tighter than before and is now identical for studs and mares. We have so many new members that this will help keep quality up and confusion down.
    3. The showing aptitude test just runs automatically as part of this now.
    4. I discovered that the old tests had been spaying/gelding based on inconsistency for years. I have carried that over and tightened it up just by a few points. Once complete "Performance Inspections" will not alter horses at all.

Genetic Testing, Performance Inspection, and Breeding Advice are available to everyone. Breeding advice is as described above. Performance Inspection includes PT testing (previously an upgraded only feature) and the recorded score part of inconsistency testing. Breeding Advice gelds/spays based on inconsistency, but Performance Inspection is where you get something written down on the horse's page about it.

Strict Breeding Advice is identical to breeding advice but uses slightly tougher numbers and is available to premium users only.

Breeding Inspection is a HUGE change for the game. This is replacing all the old papering system. It works identically for studs. Mares no longer need foals to be papered and foals no longer weight their paper scores. They can be papered at birth like studs. Cost is 1000 for studs or mares, (500 to 1500 cheaper than before) and free for gelding and spayed mares.

Comparison testing is the last test left on the side-bar. I don't expect it to stay around that long, but we are going to focus on some other issues before tackling that one.
  • Awesome. Now I really like it. I got on hj1 this morning and I can do things alot better. Thank you so much for your time and what you do for the game itself.
    Thanked by 1Ammit
  • So now that basic players can have PT testing and stallion testing, do basic upgrades get any additional benefits? The whole reason I paid for the upgrade was for access to testing, I'm a little bummed that now everyone gets it for free right after I paid for a years basic upgrade.
  • I really like being able to test the mares instantly! Makes a huge difference :) I can now see I made a couple of bad filly purchases though, so to the auction I go.
    Thanked by 1Ammit
  • Star Strike that seems awfully petty. As far as basic upgrades go, it is required to access Breeding Inspection which is your paper levels. You also get cheaper testing and instant mare testing which you never had before. Only PT has been made accessible to free accounts so that they a bit more ability to bring up the quality of their lines.

Focus on the new things YOU got. ;)

  • @Ammit, I want to say thank you soooo much for updating the phone layout (much more user friendly) and I love that fillies can be papered right away. So helpful! And you had HJ2 back up and running before I even knew it was down for updates. Thank you for letting us play even though you are updating!

I wanted to let you know own that if you click on "Forum" in the taskbar, it brings you back to the old layout. I know you have been super busy but I wasn't sure if this was something you were aware of. Is this the appropriate place to post about layout quirks?
  • Thank you for the improvements, Ammit! I'm really excited about the new testing set up (especially that mares can be tested/papered without having foals!).

I do have a few questions, though -

First is about the layout. I found all the links on the right sidebar of the Stable Home page. The sections with sub-links I see are Stable Management, Upgraded Features, Auction Bids, and Community. It looks like there might be another section below Community but it's cut off and I can't see what it says. Someone in the Beginners Barn said it's a link to deactivate your account. Not that I plan on doing that, but I thought I'd let you know that it's cut off (the Tweets sidebar also sort of runs off the layout for me too). I'm using Firefox as a browser.

Second, about testing. I started running some of my horses through the bulk testing for Strict Breeding Advice. I got the message that my horses have already had Breeding Advice (previously I ran them all through Gelding/Strict Mare Advice). You mentioned that the new testing is stricter, though, so I'm just wondering if my horses went through the new stricter testing and still passed or if they didn't get tested through the new parameters because I already did the less strict GA/SMA tests?

Also, how do we test mares in the pasture? There's no bulk testing option and even on the individual mare's page in the control panel, there's only Breeding Inspection. ETA - Ok, looks like the mares in the pasture that only had "Breeding Inspection" available was because they had already had all of the other testing, so disregard that. Looks like I'll just have to manually test each one that's in there for now, and be sure to bulk test any others before they're put into the pasture.
  • I REALLY love the right hand of the screen with the updates and always being able to see your current HBs!
The left side/Menu bar, I really liked how with the old one you could leave the drop down menus dropped down and that it was a little thinner, but I like the new one too and I bet in a couple days will be used to it!

I absolutely LOVE that you can test fillies, you have no idea how awesome that is!!
I also really like the new testing and how they are all on the horses individual pages!
Also, love the in house breeding option!

    @Ammit
With the "No Testing" option, which test/searches does it hide the horse from? Will it still show up/affect AFPT scores?

    Edit to add:
On my computer everything seems to be working fine, but the Updates/Tweets scroll box is a little low and when you get to the very bottom where the scroll down "^" arrow and the "load more tweets" is cut off and you can't see the entire thing.

    ETA again:
actually, since I posted that, it is now in full view and so is the lower box that shows "Embed" and "view on Twitter". :) awesome!

  • Is there a way to make the screen so it isn't as zoomed in? So it's at a similar distance to the old layout? If that makes sense? I do love the all updates, especially with the testing and appreciate the updates. The super zoomed screen just makes everything harder to navigate and see on a phone, if that makes sense?
  • @Star Strike

I don't know what phone browser you use, but most have settings options where you can chose font/text sizing and zoom settings.

  • Thanks Ammit. I am very excited about having access to all the new testing, but also a little terrified that it is going to carve through my barns like a hot knife through butter.

Well at least now I have a few days before the next breeding season and can work through the barns. I will have to do the whole barn at once. I don't think my heart could take doing it one horse at a time.
  • @Ammit, I like the new layout etc but none of my horse images are loading/shwoing and i've cleared cache files etc and ran advanced system care and still no improvement. How do I solve this?
  • @Cookie12, I am not showing images either, except a few of my mares in Pastures. Ammit did say in FB that HJ2 was back up, but still needed some tweaking. The images may be part of the tweaking. I noticed the individual horses pages are taking a while to load right now for me also. It may take her a while yet to get the tweaking done.
  • Thank you Ammit for all of your hard work, your are awesome! :D
  • @Ritsika Sorry I don't know what "task bar" means. The forum won't look any different on mobile.

@Kinetic it sounds like you are using a really oddly sized screen. What kind of device are you on?

@jahdaz We want to make it thinner but it is based on YOUR browser width. Try dragging the size smaller and larger to see. We have not found a way to make it set width yet and can't make it any narrower than it is yet. No testing turns off ALL testing flat out. If you don't PT test a horse they can't count towards their parents AFPT.

@Star Strike The zoom is auto set by your phone. I just told it it was allowed to display as a mobile site.

    @Cookie12 and @PaintsStables I'll look into it.

@Hypnautic No YOU'RE Awesome. :D All you amazing members.
  • @Ammit, I was referring to the new drop down menu(not sure if that's what it's called). The gray box in the upper left corner than you can click links from is gone when I go to the forum. I didn't know if that was supposed to happen. If the forum is remaining like the old layoutown without accessible links then it is behaving itself. My bad!

I was excited to have the links available/hidable while browsing the forum. I'm not the greatest at navigating on my phone so getting back to my stable can be difficult. I hope that clarifies it for you.
  • @Ammit
I've been using firefox, not sure if that's ideal or not for the game?
There is about an inch+ of space between the words "Upgrades and Extra" (also, not sure if it is supposed to say "extra" or "extras") and the ">" arrow, and then some more spacing to the right of the arrow. If I drag the browser to make it smaller, it does change the size, but then it also changes up the rest of the screen, and your stuck with a tiny window. oh well!
I mean, it's fine, I don't mind it, I just really liked the old one where you could leave the drop downs dropped down.

If you have already tested a horse does No Testing have any affect?
If the foal has already been PTed and you chose No Testing it will still show up in/attribute to the AFPT of its parents?
If you have No Testing selected does it no longer show up when you search your own horses, or only if other people search?
Does it mean that if someone was to search horses in sales by their PT or paper, that the horse just wouldn't show up?

    Thanks!

  • @Ritsika It does that on mobile. It's the forum software detecting you are on a phone.

@jahdaz Like I said we are working on it. We have put time into it, but simply don't have a solution yet. We are aware of the issue. We had to change menus for mobile navigation. I also liked the old one and we are working on answers but I don't have them for you yet. :)

No testing makes a horse invisible to tests. The test simply ignores the horse. It does nothing but prevent you from testing a horse. I think you may be over-thinking it.

    Thanked by 2jahdaz Ritsika
  • @Ammit - I'm just on a regular laptop.
  • I can add a scroll bar for you tomorrow. :)
    Thanked by 1Kinetic
  • @Ammit
OH, ok. lol, yeah, I was definitely over thinking that one!

  • The Shoco green makes me happy! :P

  • Some day there will be a Western tack pack and Confluence Farms will be giddy.
  • Is it possible to change what layout I see? From Ammit's explanation, I think I'm seeing the normal browser layout on my iPad.
  • Thank ypu so much. Love the new layout. Much easier on my phone. The only thing still rough is pasture breeding because I can't see who has been bred . But so so so much easier:-) thank you
  • FYI - When I turn the testing on and off 2 of the 3 places that say "Testing is turned off for this horse" don't change. http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=597859

  • Confluence Farms they won't unless you refresh the page.
  • A lot easier to use on mobile now!

  • Thanks Ammit, lots of great changes, love the filly papering! And although initially I wasn't sure about the RHS tweets, I love being able to see your updates there!
    Thanked by 1Ammit
  • Ammit, I have a question; Would it be possible to minimize the left menu bar on regular laptop screens as well, like it does on the phones, or make it possible to drag either of the sidebars to be smaller? I ask, because, as an older adult, (ok, the adult part may be questionable!) to get everything on my screen I have to zoom out to 75%, which makes the print kind of small. If I zoom in the middle section of the page is pretty narrow.

It's not a deal breaker in any way, and I do like the new format. It would just make things a bit easier.

  • Confluence - I'm 24 and need to zoom in on my iPad as well. Don't feel old!
  • Ammit, when you are breeding and give the foal a name that is already is use, there is no message telling you why no foal was created. I know this was something that confused a lot of people in the past.

Also, the big red "this horse is untested" isn't showing any more.

Plus, would you rather I put these in the typo tracker, or the bug discussion? I put them here because I figured they were just due to the layout changes.

    And Thank you, BreezyCreek!

  • Its hard getting used to this new layout lol. I liked having the the option to have everything open all the time not having to click like community to open a new list. Takes me longer now. Im sure I'll get used to it eventually but right now I feel almost disoriented haha :))
  • Now that it's been a couple of days with the new layout and I'm starting to get used to it, I'm liking it more and more. And I really love the new mare papering!
There are a few layout things I've noticed though, not sure if you're still tweaking these but thought I should post about it just in case (I'm using Firefox on a laptop): The pastures and the member info pages are really narrow and difficult to read.

  • Confluence Farms it would help if you could post a screen shot because I am not sure what you mean. And yes on the bug thing please.
  • @Orchestra I knew about the public member page but that has been very low priority. Did not know about the pastures I will look at that right now
  • @Ammit - Thanks for the change to the navigation bar! It HAS made a difference! (Sorry about not getting you a screen shot! Pesky real life, getting in the way of fun things!)

    Thanked by 1Ammit
  • I haven't been able to really log in and play with all the cool things till today but boy are they awesome! Thank you thank you thank you Ammit!

The bulk testing is amazing and the mare papering has me alternating jumping for joy and crying for my poor 3-4 gen red mares that are getting snipped. But its all going to be worth it in a few months.

The mobile version is so much easier to use and that in itself is a godsend.

P.S. Confluence wont be the only one giddy over a western tack pack! Just go ahead and take my Hbs! :P
  • I dont think this has been posted yet but the search screen is overlapping the Twitter feed screen on the side. I cant seem to figure out how to post a screen shot, but it should be easily seen just going to the search page. Im also in Chrome if that helps.
  • i recently joined and since the new system went through i cannot find the color testing. can someone help me out?
  • It's called Genetic testing now. In the horses Control Panel or for bulk testing at the bottom of the barn.

  • Has anyone found the tattoo manager?
  • All your stable management links are now on your Stable Home page instead of in the navigation menu.

    On the home page.
  • @Ammit when I go to paper my altered horses it is charging me 6000 to do their papers?
  • Nope it doesn't charge you.
  • Thank you for the usability improvement regarding shows, Ammit! It is very appreciated.
