How many foundation mares do you have?
-
I am wondering if once you get a lot of 2g foals for what you are tryng to do do you keep breeding them or do you auction them?
-
I have 336 foundation mares. One 90 stall barn is for surrogates for embryo transfers, but my goal is to have them all Chesnut StySty Perfect Foundation mares so they can show and be available if I need an extra broodie here and there. 50 of them (I think) are TNP mares in my Primary pasture.
I am pretty darned picky about which foals stay intact. I usually allow 1 or 2 colts per season, and as many fillies as surpass both parents. The more I breed, the better my chances of getting stellar babies! The rest all just go to auction after they are altered. -
I'm interested to hear this too.. I just started and currently have 42 foundation mares, 19 of which are in the pasture and 25 of which are perfect foundations... still wondering how to cull my offspring though.. the stallions are the hardest!
-
Is it wrong for me to put some if my foundies for sale? I mainly breed foals so I dont really go on creating sprees so is it worth me keeping my foundy mares except for my RS mares and studs.
-
I start with the free tests. No exceptions, if GA says to geld I let it. (I also use SMA every time)
Then I PT everything. Lower than either parent gets the snip.
Then I paper any remaining boys. Lower or the same as papa is gelded.
After that I comparison test to my existing boys of that generation and keep the better one. If they compare the same then I allow myself to get sentimental and pick the one I like the best! :D -
best friend, no it's not wrong to sell the foundies! Just check to see their show points before you do. It may affect your showing bonus.
I swap out foundation mares all the time.
ETA: basic foundation mares, that is. I tend to hold tight to my PF, TNP, and especially my Exceptional mares. -
At the moment I have 7 but my account is young. I just keep them in pasture and get more 2gs. I'm going to put my 2gs in pasture next season.Owner Of Bellwether Farm

If my foundy mares dont have the pf tattoo how will i know? Is there away for me to check by a search?
-
I currently own 26 foundation horses. All of my horses in my pasture are 2G horses,(14 mares, 2 stallions) so I am hoping to get lots of 3G foals!Where quality Show and Performance Horses are bred.

best, if they don't have the tattoo, then check under the records tab, if you got them from the Foundation Rescue then, yes, they are perfect foundations. Otherwise, the only other way to PARTIALLY know is if they have less than 9.9 PT you will know they aren't PFs. If they have 9.9 you just have to guess at the breeding score.
-
Ok. Thanks i got some from the rescue. I think i marked them.
-
How do i look up exceptional perfect. I know i put it in the tattoo slot did i spell it right?
-
I think it is Exceptionally Perfect, and Exceptional Producers.
-
Ok thanks.

This post made me curious to see how many foundation mares I have: 207! :))
Thirty of these mares are Perfect Foundation hh and I know I have my fair share of RS mares. I have a pixel pony hoarding problem and it only gets worse I purchase more barns. lol
As for my barn to pasture ratio, I have 90 foundation mares in the pasture full time. The rest are located in barns to be shown, and bred or used as surrogates. -
I have 271 foundation mares lol. And thats after culling multiple times. I have a huge collection of rank specials. I mean brindle mares alone I think I have 50+. And the mares who arent rank specials get bred sometimes. Mostly theyre show mares, there for embryo transplant if I need them, or to make foals that I just snip and auction. The foundations have been last priority for a while but with my new foundation boys theyve been moving up on the list lol.
-
I have 70 or 80 Rank Specials and probably 40 regular foundations most of them are mares but I have salot of awesome diamond age studs to. I wish I had more King Ransoms studs tho
-
I'm sorry for this dumb and probably worn out question...
But what exactly is a foundation horse on here? :\"> -
It is your gen 1 horses. They will say foundation x foundation. When you do a create horse they are foundations. They have no picgure on their pedigree. It just says showable horse on the entire pedigree where picture would be.Thanked by 1Ethereala

Breeding Evenly
I'm on my phone so I can't remember where to find the uneven breeding discussion page, but above is a link that explains even breeding. There are no silly questions! Everyone was new and had to learn the ropes at some point. :) -
i have 87 foundie mares, don't know how many RS mares i have though lol :-)Celestial Performance Horses

I have 166 foundation mares and I am really bad about wanting to sell any once I have them lol, I am getting very attached to my virtual herd!
-
yes I feel the same about mine Friesian and I don't like to spay or geld mine either lol
-
I just got curious of how many foundation mares I had after looking at this thread, so did a search. I have 1716 foundation mares (and I'm not even one of the biggest barns around either).
-
Do you breed all of your foundations?
-
So I added mine up - 413 all in pasture, and they will all be bred next year. That includes the Perf Foundations, the rank specials and the regular creates. 27 of those are in my last chance pasture - i.e. if they do not produce something this year coming, they will be put in the surrogate barn if they are PF or RS, otherwise it is snip and auction they go. I expect an AFPT of 10 from my foundies - if they are scoring lower with full pasture bonus and different top quality stallions they go.
-
@DragonRun, I really like that plan. I have something similar - a three strikes policy - but moving them to a last chance pasture would make them easier to identify. Currently, I look at each individual page to see if they: have three foals, the intact-altered ratio, and the average PT score of their foals. It is rather time consuming.

Foundation mares, all ages: 361
Foundation stallions, all ages: 86
Lined mare, all ages, all other generations: 346
Lined stallions, all ages, all other generations: 209
Do they all get bred every year? By no means!
If this were real life, I'd be in big trouble. :DDe gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

@Ritsika - every year I sort my foundies (this was only my 3 breeding year - so "every" may be a stretch). I have 3 special pastures - my WhiteConcerns pasture where I have to be careful with the studs, my Apps pasture and my drafts pasture.
All other foundies are sorted into one of 5 pastures. My primary pasture has mares with an AFPT between 10 - 10.19, another pasture AFPT GT 10.2 for mares with an AFPT between 10.2 - 10.39, TopProducingGen1 pasture for AFPT 10.4+, then on the other side AFPT LT 10 for AFPTs less than 10, and finally my last chance pasture. That is a lot of moving mares between pastures after every breeding season, but it makes future culling easy and helps me pick the best stallions for each pasture.
I was a little unfocused my first two breeding seasons. My first year I bred mostly crap with the odd accidental gem. I am sure when I look back at breeding season 3, I will also shudder, but I am feeling pretty good about it now. Because of the slow start, I have been a little lenient this year, but it will end up at three strikes you are out, after next year. After next season, my last chancers are gone, and the following year, anything in the less than 10 pasture.
By then my G2s should be running strong and I will decrease the number of foundation pastures. I would like to only keep those with an AFPT of greater than 10.2 - 10.4, but I have not decided yet exactly where that cut off will be.Thanked by 1Ritsika
