Breeding vs. Showing Intact Mares
  • At what point is it worth it to keep showing intact mares versus throwing them in the pasture? Or is it a personal "I'd rather have the points than the babies" decision? As well, do you still get paid showing bonus for the horses in your pasture?

I don't have an upgrade for better testing yet (I want to make sure I stick with this game before I shell out close to $40). And I actually don't know if my mares in question are actually that great. I'm quite new. They just seem to be gaining points quicker than the others.

Any input is welcome! Also, please tell me if they aren't that great :)
  • I show all of mine when I first started. Yes the mares still contribute to your daily bonus even in pasture they just cant show from there. I would keep everyone inthe barn till you have enough mares to put in your pasture. They are 3 and will be able to breed next month. It is cheaper to breed from the pasture so if you are short on funds go ahead and put those mares in pasture so that they can get their pasture bonus. They get half at 14 days and full pasture bonus at 30 days. It only costs 500 per mare to breed in pasture. I would also do the available to adopt program aswell on the forum.
  • Pasture bonus accumulates daily, not in spurts. They reach their full bonus at 30 days. I have some in pasture and some in barns making me money. I have 8 or so pastures and several hundred mares, so they don't all fit into pastures.

  • For me, I'm almost at the point where I wont need to show my mares. But the RS and Perfect Foundation mares will still be kept outside of pasture in a barn and will be shown.

  • I bought a basic upgrade today so when we get paid tomorrow i can PT the mares and make some decisions off that. I ran out of money PTing studs haha.
  • Curious if anyone just shows the mares in the meantime in the beginning of the month after breeding, or are they all kept on pasture all the time?

Or do you go through and keep a certain percentile of mares in the pasture only? I'm in the same bought. Purchased and made some decent stock to play with, but deciding what to do them for now is conflicting...

  • I would think that, as a new player, you would need the money more than the foals. Some people have a method of breeding foals in the pasture then selling them in the auction immediately, to get some extra money (it costs 500hbs to breed a pasture horse, and you can get 2500hbs minimum from the auction, for the foal). I prefer building up my show herd to get that nightly show bonus. You are eligible to adopt 2 show horses that will add to your nightly bonus, for the first month you play: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/18046/available-to-adopt#Item_2

  • Unfortunately it's been just over a month! Sounds like I will keep the good showers showing for awhile. Thanks!
  • I show everything I've got, except for mares I'm keeping in pasture until they paper (and sometimes longer), and my Primary Barn, which I always intend to show twice and seldom actually remember to do. *G*

I did a search by "Lifetime Points" of all the horses in my barn. Of the first 25, 7 are geldings, 7 are spayed mares, 10 are intact mares, and 1 is an intact stallion. The youngest of those 25 is 15; 19 are 18 or older; the oldest is 21.
