Bidding etiquette on straws and eggs..? (maybe small rant)
  • When bidding on straws and eggs are there any rules set in place for minimum to raise the bid or "courtesy" for bidding...?

I was bidding on some straws and there is one person who keeps bidding up, but by ONLY ONE dollar each time. (somebody will out bid them by $1000 dollars, and then they come back and bid ONE dollar more)

I personally think that it is really annoying, but also kind of rude.. (but hey, what are ya gonna do? :-?? )
I mean, I could understand if Hunt and Jump was set up where lots of things, like the public auction for example, was set up where you could win by bidding a single dollar more than the top bidder, but that's not how this game is, there is a $100 bid up. That single dollar bid up is not how real auctions work either.. (well, with the exception of horses from the kill pen, but even then it's extremely uncommon; but that is off topic)

And I feel like it is rude to the person selling their stuff.. We should be compensating the person for sharing this line with us.
And I feel that it is definitely going to give someone a small twinge of frustration when you and everyone else is bidding $1000 and then y'all go and lose to someone who bid $1 more than you.
    end rant. :)

  • Oh, but also, ARE there any rules or etiquette for bidding, or is it JUST if the person auctioning sets rules in their post?

  • I dont think I have done an auction bid for eggs. I know with me not having a lot of money if I did bid I would probably bid up by as lottle as possible. I know Hayes was doing an auction bid on Satin sheets and even though I really want one i quit bidding. i dtarted out at 10k because that was his reserve but then someone bid 12k I wasnt sure how much I could actually spend. So I quit. They may not have a lot of money is why they did what they did on bidding.
  • @jahdaz, I am not aware of any general (site regulated) rules for straw/egg bidding. Or even forum auctioning horses. I do know of a rule against "silent" auctions which involve PMing the person auctioning with your bid and they return your message with a counter bid from another member. If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that this is now against the rules because of scamming.

I agree with your etiquette. Whenever I'm participating in a forum auction, I try to make a decent effort to outbid by 1k or 5k because, as you mentioned, we are paying for the opportunity to have another players' bloodline.

    EDIT

@best friend, I can see your standpoint but that doesn't mean another member needs to undervalue a horse just because they want to have the (horse/straw/egg). If a low budget is the case and a straw/egg was for sale, I would suggest PMing the auctioner and telling them the situation. A lot of members are very accommodating and may even reserve a straw for you to pick up at the price of final sale - but at a later date when you have the hbs.

    EDIT again.

I have found the thread we are discussing and it appears that Ammit has made a comment to increase at a reasonable amount (she suggested that 1k was a decent minimum bid increase).
  • I am thinking about asking them for one. Ii agree that sounds right to increase by a 1000.
  • I had a REALLY crappy day at work, and re-reading this all I can think is ohmygod I am so overly dramatic *eye-roll* Hahaha

I saw the Ammit post, too. Good to know.
