Mares For Brood?
-
I have some mares I am thinking about putting up for brood next season and I'm not sure what to price them at. What do you think would be a reasonable price for each of them? I am trying to focus on building my show herd instead of breeding next season.
Grey Gem
Spotted Sea
Muddy Rain
Celtie
Lemon Lime
White Wave
Black Space
Spotted Moo Cow

I'd price them based on generation. Sadly if they are public you will probably have someone breed them out of gen but that's to be expected.
Try this
Foundies-5k
Second-6k
Third-7k
Fourth-8k
You could go even higher as well to help keep unevenness down. They are all gorgeous mares.----

I have to say that I disagree. Unless they are RS, or have rare genes, a public broodmare isn't going to be worth more than 1000hbs.

I agree with Confluence. Since the base value for any horse is 2500, I'd try to stay low enough that the person can at least break even if they get an altered foal. I know if use public broodmares at 1500 and under (usually 1000) but rarely higher.

The most brood mares go for $1000 or less..
Unless they're RS or they have "fancy" genes, which I know preference varies from person to person and their specific breeding herd. (everybody has their own favorites, and "fancy" doesn't always mean flashy pinto, right now my absolute favorite is sooty brown, the current game favorite seems to be anything with Satin, etc.)
I usually breed based on paper and PT level if I am breeding to other mares, so that is my search criteria, and if the horse has a flashy coat to boot then that's awesome.
Good luck!ID# 2353
