Broke 13!
  • I managed to break the 13 point PT barrier with not one but two foals this year. Both by the same sire.

  • Congratulations!
I was jllewis on the old forum.

  • Marvelous!

  • They both got the snip, which normally means I would throw them in the public auction and let FSYYC get them, but I just can't bring myself to do it... Maybe I will start a show barn for culls.
  • Congrats! That is fantastic!
  • Showing is where you make money in this game. In her original game advice, Ammit recommended keeping 5-10 times as many neuters as intact horses for showing.

I'm not doing so well in this game. I have 1685 horses total. There are 869 stallions and mares but only 816 neuters. Sigh. Looks like I need to start neutering more. It's such a temptation to want to breed all the mares to see if they paper better than their dams, and the earlier you neuter them the better.

  • Wow, I have barely made it past 12! Good going!

I have 1091 intacts and 4188 altered ones. And I still havent one through my mares after last season, so I will probably alter quite a few of them still.

  • You have to either show your breeding stock (or breed your showing stock) or have an even higher proportion in this game, since your horses aren't going to live as long in real time as they do over on HJ1.
  • I make plenty of money without having any altered showing stock. When I don't get lazy and actually breed my retired mares for "profit" babies I make an average of 2 million HB's a month (when combined with the show earnings from showing those mares). I tend to get lazy though, because I don't spend 2 million HB's a month, so I don't feel the need to earn that much. I don't need to spend money on the barns to hold the 4k horses I would need to earn that much from showing. I do fine with around 1500 horses.

HJ2 is a smidge different than HJ1 when it comes to what is more profitable altered or intact horses. Intact mares are more profitable. Because of our hastened timeline horses earn less from showing (they earn about 12.5% of what an HJ1 horse will earn in it's lifetime), but can earn 2k a month from babies. The difference in what an intact mare and an alter mare will earn from showing is pretty negligible when compared to the 2k a month they can get from having a for profit foal.
  • I am personally hoping that when the discrepancy brought up in this thread ( http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum.php#/discussion/3080 ) is cleared up, showing will become more profitable. (I am hoping that all horses will just get double the training increase instead of the other way.)
  • Kaquel, I'm surprised that bug hasn't been addressed yet, seems like a major flaw in my humble opinion.

I see dark star's point in the "for profit" babies. I know a few players do that. Personally I like to play the game as if it were more like real life. If I were running an operation I wouldn't breed every mare just to have a baby I would dump to the meat knacker for profit. (We'll ignore the fact that horse slaughter is not legal in th U.S. right now). I would only breed my quality mares to quality studs and keep their quality babies for future breeding. Everything else joins a show or working string and lives out its days doing a non-baby making job. Sure, I won't make as much money probably, but that's the beauty of the game. Everyone can set their own personal goals and play their own way.

  • Yeah Salvistar, I am guessing that there isn't an obvious easy solution, and that's why it hasn't been addressed. I hope it is fixed soon.

I can definitely see the benefit of for profit foals, but I also would rather not breed exclusively for that purpose. I know it's just a game, but I get sentimental haha.
