He is off one generation and I don't like it, he is being gelded and sold for the price I bought him forLife is Special live it to your fullest -
Why are off generations looked so down upon? That's what I'm wondering. I've seen many go on the be good show horses.

It's part of the "game culture" that has grown up based on the experience of many players.
A lot of us are trying to have each succeeding generation be an improvement in the average PT of foals bred. A goal like this is more difficult to achieve because if, as is hoped, each generation is "better" than the last, breeding horses that are not "even" in the generations on the pedigree means that either the stallion or the mare (depending on who has the longer list of ancestors somewhere) will have a significantly higher breeding ability score, and even with the built in range of possible foal PT's, the chance of seeing the desired improvement becomes less and less likely.
In practice, the longer the pedigree, the less likely it is that an unevenness early somewhere in the line's history will have a lot of effect. Nevertheless, unless a player keeps all horses in-house and neither breeds to outside horses nor tries to sell their foals, uneven lines can make a difference to successfully interacting with other players.
Breeding foals with the idea of selling them is not the best way of making money in this game, but if that is one of your goals, or if you can't afford to keep buying more barns and so have to sell a lot of babies, then maintaining even generations is an important habit to get into.De gustibus non disputandum. You're not alone in that. *G*De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Do you guys keep up with generation even if they are like 7th or 8th+ gen? Or does it matter if you breed a 8th gen w a 11thgen? Is there a point where you can stop looking at generation for breeding?
-
At some point I will probably stop matching them perfectly evenly, but at 7g I'm not there yet.
-
I also like even, but have forgotten to check on a couple that I bought that were uneven. I have one stallion that is 4th or 5th Gen that I keep intact, because he produces a high percentage of foals that show at a profit. I am more concerned with profit makers, rather than PT. That is mainly what I am looking for. But I will probably do the same as Abbey Road when I get up to 7th or 8th gen.
