Damages?
-
I logged on today and had a message on my stable home page that said one of my horses "got into trouble" while I was away and incurred 6hbs worth of damages.
I've noticed the damages section on the Records tab on a horse's page before, so I had always been curious about what it means, and I'd never actually come across a horse with anything in the damages section before.
So what exactly does it mean? Will it effect the horse in the long term? Does it effect the value of the horse if I ever decide to sell it? I kinda just thought it was the game's version of "injuries", just wandered if there is any more implications other than the small fee (Can you get unlucky and get high costing damages?) -
Hm, I never noticed before! I hope you don't mind, but can I add on the question: Are certain horses more prone to getting injuries?Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
Prices are almost always negotiable. -
The horses don't get "injuries" just into trouble. It does affect their value in some ways years ago it would cost 100s of dollars instead of just 5 or 10.
I didn't play regularly enough back them to know much else about it. One of our older players will be on later and can explain better----

I wasn't playing at the time, but many years ago, when the game was just starting, there weren't all the tests we have now to help us evaluate a horse's abilities without a lot of time playing with it. I have heard that Ammit introduced damages as a signal that a horse wasn't of good quality, and the really bad ones did have damages of over 100 hbs in a single notice.
Since testing has been built into the game, not too many really terrible horses will make it through the testing and be kept, so we seldom see extremely high damage costs for horses any more. I used to auction horses that were regularly getting into more expensive trouble.
Since Ammit switched to the Showing Bonus to help improve our incomes, that has changed. I will check the record of a horse that has been charged 5 or more hajibucks for damages, and compare their damage bills with their total points. I usually find that even if a horse has acquired a total of 50 or 60 hajibucks in damage over time, it's point count is high enough to be bringing me a lot more than the total lifetime damages every night, so I let it stay. After all, my income is increased regularly by their presence, and the damages are each a single withdrawal.
However, I have a large stable with thousands of horses. Newer players with small stables may have to make different decisions.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Ah, okay. So it's really only something to worry about if a horse is regularly acquiring damages?
