Stallions and Pastures
-
So I just thought about covering mares in pasture and wondered...
Do I have to own the stallion to cover the pastured mares? Is the process putting the stallion in the pasture and then clicking breed? If so, there's no chance of covering pasture mares with another players stallion, aye?Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Correct, Obsidian. You must own both stallions and mares to use them in pastures. In addition, if you use a pasture that lets you put in 2 or more stallions, which stallion covers which mare is completely random. It may not even be a relatively even split between the boys! I've had two boys in and one got 75% of the mares and the other only got 25%... it's quite random.
Pasture breeding can happen two ways--one is as you describe. You put in breedable horses of both sexes and hit Breed My Pastures, at which point every pasture you own that has mares and stallions in it will breed. The other is to load your pastures at the beginning of the month and they will AutoBreed the first time you log in after the 14th I think.Thanked by 1ObsidianKitsune -
The first time you log in on the 14th is the moment. But for those of you who are on the other side of the world and about 12 hours ahead of game time, it probably is when you first log in after the 14th. :)
All my pastures with both mares and stallions in them were bred and the Kit mutation loads of their foals reported at the top of my stable home page on two games today. Now I'll have to get my daughter to forward the best in pasture foal reports for me, since she started playing first, so it's her email that is recorded for the accounts we both have.
AND name and test all those foals. Yikes!De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Hey I'm just excited I was right that it was around the 14th! I don't autobreed so that number was just floating around in my head somewhere!

Thanks guys!
And midnight on this game is 6pm for me, so a nice lovely time to go in and sort things outProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

I keep all the mares in the pastures, but the stallions stay up in the barns until I am ready to breed the pastures. That way the stallions can still show.

Is that Hawaiian time?

Well, I live in New Zealand. I think both are gmt+12 though.
I don't have any stallions in pasture at all for the same reason. My boys are pretty good at getting me pointsProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
