Hello! :)
-
Hi new friends!
Just found this awesome game (got HAJ1 and HAJ2 on the same day...)
No idea what I'm doing but I'm enjoying it so far! I love repro/genetics AND video games... So I'm really excited to play!
Quick question, while I'm here... How do I gain exp points? Will leveling up do the same as an upgrade would? So once I earn 100 exp I will be the same as "Upgraded level 2"?
I hope that question makes sense...
Anyway, glad to be here, and thanks for having me!

Oh, I thought of another question... Don't mind me!
I'm wondering what else there is to do other than the one day/week of training? How can I stay busy (especially just starting out... I'm sure there will be plenty more to do once I get the swing of things), without spending any more hbs? Thanks friends! :) -
I am not sure exactly all of the ways you gain experience points. One way I believe is breeding a new horses, but there might be other ways. Once you gain 100 experience you level up and you gain 1 extra stall in your primary barn. Each level up gives you a new extra stall.
To become an upgraded member you have to spend real life money, or a lot of earned game money. See My IV Manager and Upgrades under the Upgrades and Extras section of the game.
Things to do during the week:
Collect your pay early in the week and train all of your horses
Show your horses twice per week
Breeding (Stallions must be 3 or older, and Mares 4 or older)
Explore all the different sections under the navigation panel
Read/post on the forum
Sort through your current barn and get rid of horses that don't show well or that you aren't planning to breed
Plan matchups for next breeding season
Create new foundation horses
Of course a lot of those things cost money, but as your barn grows you stay busy pretty easy. This is kind of a more sit and wait game than a typical "video game." I think of it more as a long term strategy game. Of course your strategy and goals can be anything you want, which is awesome on this game!
As a note there are some differences between HJ1 and HJ2, so just be aware of that.

Welcome to the game.
Salvistar is right on the mark--this is a game of patience and long term strategy. All the training and showing and growing goes on behind the scenes. No views of horses grazing in the pasture or flying over fences. The player's role is to choose what colors and or patterns to breed for, make decisions about showing, how strictly to follow the game conventions (NOT rules) like breeding even generations, running all horses at least through the free testing available, when to cull horses, etc. It can be very slow starting out, but with patience many of us have become addicted to the fascinations of the ins and outs of horse genetics and the real-life uncertainty built into almost every feature of the game. All too soon, there is WAY too much to do. :D
Oh, yes, and never apologize for asking questions. These are both amazingly complex and always changing games (It seems like Ammit continually comes up with new and exciting features.) that can take quite a while to master. We are a very friendly community that loves to lend new players a helping had. There are no stupid questions here.
Here is a link to the old forum where there is a guide for new players. It was written for H&J 1, so things will be slightly different for H&J 2. Also, some of it is outdated or never finished. However, for the most part, it will give you a good overview of what this game is all about.

Thanks a bunch SandyCreek! I'm definitely looking forward to getting into it and figuring out my own strategy. I'm definitely loving every aspect about this game, so far! :)

Welcome!! Just hang in there and be patient with the game. I also enjoy changing my horses manes, tack, etc. In my free time. Of course, that still costs money but not as much! :) enjoy the game! And don't give up! Even if it seems slow at first! :)

I'm back with another question!
Is there going to be a link for HAJ2 for friends to sign up with like in HAJ1? I noticed the page says under construction, so I'm curious. :) Thanks again! -
I would guess that since that page is "under construction," it will be built some day. There have been a lot of other, more important upgrades and reprogramming projects underway, and since there are only two developers working on this game, in addition to other jobs they might have, some things do get put on a back burner.De gustibus non disputandum.
