Culling based on PT?
-
Is the best practice breeding from the ground up with foundations to cull based on PT? (if they have passed all their other tests)
I just started a new group, all the mares are "rank: perfect foundations" 9.9 PT or rank specials with 9.9-10.4PT, and I just bred them all to a Rank Special B papered 10.4 stallion. The resulting foals have a PT 9.4 through 10.9, should I keep the G2 foals, or cull out the lower PT scored ones?
ETA:
All the colts Paper: B
Should I keep the fillies for at least one breeding to see how they do?ID# 2353 -
@jahdaz, each player has their own culling method and there is no one way to go about culling.
As a new group, I would suggest keeping everybody that fits your breeding program. For the colts, their paper level will not change. As for the fillies, until they have produced three foals, it is up in the air what their breeding ability is. Once they have three foals, I would suggest papering them and seeing which fits your standards. Then go from there. :)

PT Scores, what's the standard? -
Don't cull foals on PT score, just keep the fillies and see how they do! Colts, if you can afford to compare the B papered ones, I'd keep anything that compares superior to your B papered stallion

I'm pretty strict with my PT standards for foals. For 2G, they must be 10 or up and for 3G 10.5 or up. With my higher generations, I take into account whether or not they fit my breeding program before culling, then usually let them produce a foal or two to see what sort of quality they are. As far as colts, I agree with Kintara. Comparison test to find who is superior. If I'm short on funds, I start by comparing the highest PT colt with the most compatibility to my breeding program and then go down the list till I find one. I usually don't keep colts that PT is lower than their sire. I've had success with this plan in breeding out some great horses, however, it has taken me a LONG time to get to this point!
Everyone plays the game differently and has different goals. If you really enjoy having long term goals, be prepared to buckle down and alter horses that don't fit what you want. I have alter a few that literally made me want to cry because they were SO perfect in every way but only compared as good as their sires.
Just remember that show ponies are your money makers and while at first it may seem that they take up a lot of barn space, it will pay off!Specializing in W8, W3 & Kit M Cream & Pearl draft horses.

The number one thing you need in this game to succeed is show horses. If you get rid of your geld/spayed horses you will be poor forever.
