Brindle reproduction
-
Has anyone had a stallion that produces more than 1 brindle in its lifetime? I feel like most brindle studs I've seen/had have only produced one foal. Any thoughts or opinions on this?
If a brindle stud has already produced a brindle foal do the chances of it producing another brindle foal drop significantly? -
My old brindle stallion that just passed threw two brindle foals. They are also 2 of the 4 intact brindles I have bred. Everyone else is the only brindle from that brindle parent... I have bred 9 brindles in the 16 or so months I've been playing, but I put a LOT of foals on the ground.
I don't think the odds go down...I just think they are ridiculously low to start with. -
I've got a brindle stud that has given me two brindle foals. Oddly enough they are both from the same season as well. They are the only two I've produced in almost a year and only the mare passed testing. I'm not expecting any more brindle foals from him, but you never know.

It's random which outcome you get out of all the possible outcomes, so chances are not affected by a previous brindle any more than the odds of any other color are affected by previous foals.

I second Cheers and Denalidom. There is a lot of luck involved in getting a brindle. In almost three years I have bred 8, but I do not breed a real large scale. Only one stallion has given me two, and it was in the same season oddly enough.

Remember also, Star Strike, that brindle isn't a gene. Every single horse you breed or create has an infinitesimally minute chance to have brindle (except, obviously, the brindle rank specials). In horses bred from brindle parents, or possibly brindle lines, that chance is a tiny fraction higher. Breeding specifically for brindle really would be an exercise in frustration!

The chance of a given result in breeding is the same no matter how many times you breed for it. It's like tossing pennies. There is a 50/50 chance of getting heads, and the same chance of getting tails, each time you toss the coin. You can toss it 50 times, but you won't necessarily get 25 heads and 25 tails. The chance of each result is the same each time you throw.
In terms of horse colors, let's narrow it to one gene. If you have a stallion that is heterozygous black at Extension--Ee, every time you breed him, there is a 50 % chance he will pass on dominant extension and a 50% chance he will pass on recessive extension. Ten foals with Dominant extension will not change the odds of getting one with recessive extension the next time. It's all luck, and it's exactly like it is in real life.
Although I have found that if I'm breeding manually and I'm getting a lot of neutered or inconsistent foals, if I stop breeding and wait until another day, the luck sometimes changes. *G*De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Thanks for all of your input! I know it is a very rare occurrence, was curious as to everyone's luck and whether anyone recognized patterns or anything like that. Thank you!
