Voting that horses are priced to high...?
  • I got 5 game alerts that my horse "0" (I do not have ANY horses named zero, and definitely not 5 of them?) were all voted priced too high for sale...
ALL 5 of my horses were listed as either $2,500 or $2,499. All of them are Spay/Geld tested and passed, All of them are color tested, All of them are Performance Tested.

    Was this an error?
It seems off that it says all my horses are called "0" instead of their names?

I mean, I know that my horses aren't really "quality" horses since I just play for the fun of it and not to be competitive or trying to make money, but are they really such low quality that even asking the basic auction house price is too much?

(re-reading through this, I just want to emphasize, I am *Not* mad or upset!!! Just genuinely confused and wanting to better my game to at least not have my horses voted out of the sales..)

    Thanks in advance

    Edit to add:
Never mind, I just found the announcement that Ice is no longer allowed to be in the Public breeding or Public sales :(

  • Any ice? Or just the LE ices. I thought ice 8 was public?
  • Not anymore. Ice (all of them) and Nexus are off of the public breeding and sales lists
  • Oh. Okie dokie then lol I didn't get that memo.
  • You can still sell them, just has to be through the auction or between players privately. Ammit posted details in an announcement thread.
  • Yes as Denali said there was an announcement post and it was posted on the facebook page. And if you have ice1 or ice8 there are buddy chatrooms for those so you can put your horses up for sale or breeding there. You just have to ask to join! And of course with the LE ice genes we're automatically added to the chatrooms once theyre created if we bought the genes.
  • Didn't Ammit also say that we may not even be able to use the auctions to sell the fantasy color horses? Like, how are we supposed to do anything with 'em if we can't breed to improve or sell...?

  • Private auction house and buddy chat sales. From what I've gathered.
  • Those are the ones restricted to people who paid for them that can only go through buddy sales. She's threatening to do that to the public auction house if it's abused

  • She's threatening to do that to the public auction house if it's abused

What does that mean? How were the public sales abused?
How was public breeding abused, if somebody wants to breed for a pretty color instead of the highest quality why not let them..?
What would it mean to abuse the auction house?
Does this mean that to breed Fantasy colors you need to either already have owned them or buy with real $15 to own them, or pay for premium account upgrades to be able to buy and sell them?
Wouldn't it just make more sense to contact or give warnings to the players that are "abusing" the system and then go from there instead of banning it for all?

Sorry for all the questions, just really confused.

  • No, you're good. Those are great questions, and part of a larger discussion that was going on in the facebook group earlier this week.

It's not so much intentional abuse as a function of the way hunt and jumps economy works. The issue with poor quality horses (or one of them at least) is that horses here have a metric other than color preference to determine their value. This game is complex enough that it takes time and practice to learn all of the different dynamics at play. New playersweithout the knowledge to judge horses objectively or excess funds to afford making mistakes with tend to gravitate toward the flashy stuff (nexus, I'm looking at you) without understanding the rest of what goes into breeding.

Many of the horses listed for public sale (and I've seen them!) were extremely high - like well over 10k - and definitely not worth that much. It's rare that anything other than a rank special sell for that much, at least on public sales. Horses of high enough quality to be worth five digits are typically sold privately, because their owner likey paid real cash for that line and wants control over where it ends up. If a horse is only priced a certain way because of its color (just like real life), it's an inflated value. On this game (unlike real life) the horses are pixelated so there's no moral code behind the decision of whether or no to auction them. It's only behind whether to let new players spend their (limited) cash on horses that aren't going to make them money, aren't worth what they paid, and that likely won't resell for the same price.

Abusing the auction, I assume, would involve trying to run a horse's sale price way up past their actual value for profit. You can still buy and sell all of them through the auction if you don't have an upgrade.
  • Since there are WAY more people playing on HJ1 it was probably a bigger problem over there, but I have seen it happen over here. People were intentionally trying to scam new players, presenting low quality, flashy horses at insanely high prices. Just like real world those buyers found out pretty quick that those horses were a rip off. It tends to turn you off the breed (in real life) and the game (in this case).

Ammit really tries to keep things enjoyable, and does a damn good job of it. She is also very open about why she does what she does, so when there is something like this, that affects the game, she will nearly always explain it SOMEWHERE.

It probably couldn't hurt for you to get on the Facebook page, jahdaz, lots of good info goes through there.

  • There were some really serious cases of abuse over on HJ1 with Nexus and some of the Ices. One where someone "spammed" low quality Nexus creates to hurt a stallion, or more specifically the stallion owner. Another Ammit cited just before this newest rule was an Ice mare "Showing Prospect" (meaning she failed Showing Aptitude Test but with Auto Spay turned off, but it means she's a bad breeding prospect) up for public sale for some ridiculous price like 60 or 80k (prices are way higher over there). The discussion of most of these issues does seem to happen on the Facebook Discussion Page. I would encourage any serious player to get onto that page both to keep yourself informed and so that you can have a say on things that might affect you.
  • I would like to add that it takes all of us monitoring the sales prices to help keep the game economy sane. You may have a different opinion than I do about a particular horses value, but most of us can agree that a 16 year old gelding with 23 all time points is NOT worth 35000 hbs!

  • Yes on Hj1 they where selling for often selling for 250K and junker ones would sell for 50k even with people trying to keep then voted down. There was pages of them over there. No the ones selling for 3k and under where not a problem at all. And Hj2 was not even in the same league as abusive but I was having to help newbies out who where scammed by junker stallions for 15 and 20k even over here.

Ok, I haven't been on Hj1 in forever. yikes.
I think the only one that I ever really saw on HJ2 were a few recent ones where they were completely untested except for not passing the SAT(with auto geld/spay turned off) with a price tag of over $10k, but other than that I hadn't seen anything?

Is buddy sales only a paid membership/account feature or is that something everyone has access to?
    ID# 2353
  • Buddy sales have always one of the benefits of an upgrade. Depending on how the upgraded member sets the controls, members without upgrades can sell horses in a budy chat room. I would think it would only be polite to ask the room owner before you did it, though. (Or did that change? I remember there being some problems)

  • It did change. We instantly had problems with members giving chat rooms to free users for transferring horses and the cheating implications became very clear.
