Changing a horses gender
  • How do you do it? And is it worth it? I have a bunch of rank special stallions I wish were mares.
  • It's a GMT thing, so they have to fulfill all the usual requirements there. Think it's 2 tokens per horse. Down at the bottom of the page.

I've done it a couple of times when I had excess colts that had papered out where I wanted them. I think probably switching RSs sexes is one of the better uses because you know, without a doubt, you're going to end up with high quality breeders.
  • I am on a mobile phone. I don't see the change gender:-(
  • You have to select a horse to see it.
  • Out of curiosity... why do you wish they were mares? Wouldnt you get more 'use' from a stallion?

  • You need to have many more mares than stallions, since a mare can have only 1 live cover foal per breeding season, and a stallion can have up to 50. If you have more stallions than you need, but have a colt that has exactly the look (color and or pattern) that you desire, you might want to make it a mare, to keep those genes in your line.

  • But wouldn't the stallion pass that along to the mare anyway? Sorry just trying to wrap my head around it
  • Castel, it's mostly an issue of ratios. You need very few stallions of each generation in your herd, and many more mares. If you have extra stallions or colts, of a high breeding quality, it could be worth it to make them mares. It is also worth pointing out that it is much easier and quicker to pinpoint the breeding quality of a stallion early, while mares are much more difficult to evaluate. None of these alone are necessarily worth spending 2 GMTs....they are pretty expensive! But it would be worth considering...and in hidden's case, it probably makes sense. She knows she will be getting top quality broodmares, some of whom will have genes that are uncommon or unusual.

  • I have done it because I know that when you reach the higher generations the mares tend to lag in quality behind the stallions. That being the case I am working on the absolute best mares I can in lower generations. Also, when I have 3-4 really nice colts, all with similar statistics, and I can decide which ones to snip, and which to keep intact, I just swap the gender.

  • Ahhh I see. Thankyou for explaining!
Anyone feel like peeking at my stables and giving me some advice lol. I have all sorts of bits and pieces, just having fun with the game nad getting used to it, but would like to learn and improve...
Is the higher gen no or lower gen no more desirable??
  • Its actually this account I REALLY would love to know what to do with haha 19536
  • At your stage of playing, just collecting some bits and pieces and having fun with the game is really the best strategy. Do searches by color. If you go to the various tabs, you can actually sort by individual genes. This is one way to see what is possible in any genes you are interested in.

There is no one best way to play the game. Really. Some people have extremely strict breeding rules, Confluence Farms, for instance. Some have much looser standards. I have known players who concentrated for game years on specific colors and/or patterns. Some people want to start with foundations and work their way up the generations with horses that are completely home bred. Take your time to decide what you want to pursue. It's a game of patience, mostly.

Me, I breed a little bit of almost everything, have over 4000 horses, most of which are foundations or 2nd generations, with a few very long pedigree horses for their high PT scores. I'm terribly distractable, and start lines with a certain color, get them into the second, maybe the 3rd generation, then find myself concentrating on something else. Mainly what I enjoy most about the game is helping other players, and even having mostly low generation horses showing every week keeps my hajibuck balance pushing the limit most of the time. My daily showing bonus is just over 200,000 hbs now. All this from being a pixel pony hoarder who seldom sells or auctions horses.

Oops. I forgot which game I posting in. Those are my HaJ1 stats. In this game, my total is over 2000 horses, and I'm making a little over 114,000 hbs nightly. I think the highest generation horses I have in this game are a handful of 7th gens.

  • Also remember that it's okay to experiment for awhile before settling on something.
I've been playing for a year and 2 months and am just now preparing to focus and work hard on breeding specific quality and color.
I spent a good 5 months breeding very uneven and honestly *crappy* horses just because I wanted to see what would happen and how it effected my stock. I now have some really pretty show ponies with great points from those shenanigans.

Just remember to always ask if you need help on anything. Everyone here is very nice and do their best to explain anything from a specific stallions quality to how to mass flush eggs.

When you do decide to start breeding seriously (I use that turn loosely as it varies for everyone) be prepared for a lot of lost horses. Like they stated, breeding good quality into a line takes lots of work especially when it's comes to mares.
Hope to see you around the game more :)
